Most ppl seem to prefer the Regular but I notice all the Casinos I go to use bridge. Any body know why it is they do? Harder to cheat? Cheaper?

Just want to know before I order a large quantity of KEM decks from USPC.

It matters to me - I much prefer Bridge size because they are easier to shuffle. Just easier to handle in general I guess.

Bottom line -- it really doesn't matter.

When you catch your boat on the flop, you don't care what kinda cards you're holding!

The smaller ("bridge") size is what's used in most poker rooms, so lots of people prefer it for status as much as anything else. They're also a little smaller if you have lots of people crowded around a table. Also a little easier to shuffle. But these are all tiny differences, IMO. Bridge size is especially good for games where you have lots of cards in your hand -- like bridge, gin, hearts. etc. But that obviously doesn't apply to most poker games.

The larger ("poker") size is used for blackjack at casinos. There may have been some original reason for this, like they'd be harder to slip up your sleeve and cheat, but who knows. They're only a 1/4" wider fergodsakes so it's no big deal.

I like bridge size and all my Kems are that size.

Now you can worry about Index (no Super Index for me)! And heck, here's a nice page about cards: http://www.homepokertourney.com/cards.htm
And this one shows the faces (Index), click on Next Face to see others: http://www.kem.com/regface.html

I have a set of Kems, poker size, and super index. i'm not a big fan of the super index, while it is your job to protect your cards, it feels like you have to lift them so high off the table to see suits.

i wanna get a new set of bridge sized kems, i like having variety.

UBB (this bulliten board) software has really crappy search. Like mid-80's technology the last time I maintained it. They should incorporate google, dammit.

Card size is all about preference. Mine is bridge size, regular index.

I'm bidding on some old KEMs that say Wide Size Poker on the box. 2.5" x 3.5". Are those Bridge?

My knowledge of the history of the Poker size versus Bridge size is that Kem originally printed the wider "Poker Size" for use in poker. They were successful and later added the "bridge" size for other games such as bridge and gin where you hold as many as 13 cards in your hand.

Now the reason poker rooms use the bridge size is very simple. Dealers can handle the narrower cards easier. They are easier to deal and easier to shuffle. There is nothing more important to a casino in poker than HPH (hands per hour). The faster a dealer can be, the more money the house makes on the rake. Thus why use a deck that would slow a dealer down.

From running home games and my personal experience, I much prefer the smaller, bridge sized cards. They also have one slight advantage over the full size as a player. You tend not to have to lift them up as high to view your cards, helps to protect them from the watching eyes of your opponents. This is a slight difference from bridge to poker size, you'll notice it more in going from Super or Jumbo index to regular index, as the jumbo ones you really gotta lift them high to see your suits.

The Kem Wide Size Poker cards are 2-1/2" wide and are the "poker" size. "Bridge" size cards are 2-1/4" wide, so the deck you're looking at is Poker size.

I was very wary of using bridge-size cards. . .until I finally picked up some Copags and used them in a game. They ROCK!

Bridge size is definitely the way to go, for all the reasons already mentioned here. My buddies kept giving me grief about the slickness of the cards, but no one noticed the size difference. It made a difference to me since I acted as dealer for most of the night. /images/graemlins/grin.gif
