Poker Stars 350K Guaranteed, I just got into the money. My first hand after the break I was dealt 55 UTG, blinds 1500-3000, my stack was approx. 20,000, I move all in, get called by 99 on the button, and I hit the rail.
Did I make this move too soon? I don't think I'll ever push 22-66 under the gun with 7.5x's bb - 10x's bb, unless I'm less than 5x's the BB. Thanks.

I think I'd fold here. You have a small stack but can still wait for a better oppurtunity than a hand that can be an 80/20 dog UTG.

Yeah, I felt sick after that 99 called me.

i'd push there. if you fold through your blinds, you'll be down to 15k and then there will be a lot of pressure to push in the next orbit. the antes make stealing more appealing, and since you're just into the money, it's not a bad time at all to take a 55/45 flip with some dead money out there.
also, for those who don't know, stars is 9-handed, so it's like utg+1 at party.

good point with the utg + 1, and yeah, I usually like to move with any 2 big cards, or pair in those situations, i just didn't like the UTG part, thanks schwza

Whether it's UTG on Stars or UTG+1 on Party, you will still have 8 to act behind you. So I don't know that this matters here.
I think the push is good. I don't think waiting until 5x bb to push this hand is correct. If you then double up, you'd be at 10x bb and find yourself in push/fold mode all over again.
If you push now and double up, you are ~20x bb and have some maneuverability.

with the antes you did the right thing.
99 actually has a tough decision unless he has a huge or small stack.
also were you 9 handed? it is close then. If any less than 9 it is still an easy push.
You are going to lose over 25% of your stack in the next two hands and lose just about all folding equity thereafter on your pushes.
I push with a lot of hands in your position.

i was just pointing this out for party players who might see utg and assume there 9 to act.

Easy push with 6.5BB and about to hit the blinds. FWIW I'm pushing alot of hands worse than that here....

I feel better about it now, I also didn't think about the blinds about to hit me right then and there. This thread has been helpful

With 7 BBs and the antes, it is an easy push. It is EV+, because the chance of a bigger pair calling is not that great. You gain about 2BBs if no one calls. If you get called by AQ or AK, you are a 55% favorite plus the blinds and antes, so on average you pick up 2 BBs then too. If you get called by a higher pair, you lose 4 BBs on average. Since you will get called by a bigger pair less than 1/3 of the time, this is EV+.
