I moved back to 1/2 after being kicked around at 2/4 again, only to be treated to a very frustrating session where I got big starters, hit a lot of sets in what should have been perfect circumstances (but didn't get paid in a lot of them), and ended up down $50 over 650 hands.

Whatever; doesn't matter. In this hand, villian is new to the table and unknown.

Is this a clear check behind on the turn and fold on the river if I miss my straight?

this is a fold preflop.

1. your call doesn't end the action; dumb guy who made it 5 could always reraise again
2. although 11 more is only ~6% of your stack, it's right along 10% of villains' stack, which is the important number
3. three way pots are a little trickier because you are less likely to be paid off when yo uset (although additional dead money from player #3 counterbalances this)

Yeah, i'd check behind the turn given how you got there.

Also, you probably have 10 outs, not 8. So I'd count set outs as additional outs, and if you were to hit a set on the river, I wouldn't be quick to give it up.

BTW, it's really odd the pre flop reraiser checked this flop 3 way. It's a very dangerous board, so check/call is really weird unless he had like red AA and wanted to wait for a safe turn. but then he checked again (?)

fold to a raise and re-raise preflop.

i like your flop bet, but i'd slow down after SB calls. check behind him on the turn. fold if you don't improve.
