The fact that Bohemian Rhapsody is winning because of Wayne's World really upsets me.... and shows me how stupid the majority of OOT really is.

I've been saying this for years but nobody else has been listening.

Still, SLTS is probably they're best song, and better than Mrs. Robinson

Thanks for pointing out the fact that no one liked Queen before Wayne's World came out. Everyone looks at me like i'm crazy when I say that they didn't have any other good songs and no one would know any of their songs now if it weren't for Wayne's World.

Mrs. Robinson - Simon & Garfunkel 13 28%
Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana 32 71%

This is sick. Mrs. Robinson is a classic.

I think Smells Like Teen Spirit can probably be classified as a classic too.

No, but when multiple songs who are all getting their ass handed to them simultaneously go on a double digit vote upswing in a short period of time, it tends to look a bit fishy.

U2 is easily the most overrated band ever. Granted "one" is a decent song, but "Jack and Diane" (AKA, the happiest song ever) blows it away, despite John Mellencamp sucking it hard too.

And if there has to be a U2 song on here, it would have to be "Where the streets have no name"

AHHHHHHHH!

Thanks a lot.

Seriously, what is so great about this dated, goofy song? Off the Wall was kinda cool but Thriller - I'm sorry - is just so dated. Who the hell listens to it anymore?

In the whole of history, no artist has ever been more vastly overrated than Michael Jackson.

A couple of years ago I checked the remastered, expanded versions of Thriller & Off The Wall out of the library. Both sounded great, defo masterpieces of a type.

OTW holds up a bit better after 25(!!! /images/graemlins/frown.gif /images/graemlins/tongue.gif) years, and Billie Jean is the worst song on either album.

A more interesting contest would be albums v albums: Thriller & OTW v WGO & Let's Get It On, or even MJ v MG for their entire careers.

IMO, for starters, the *songs* WGO & LGIO are better than anything on Thriller or OTW, but I think LGIO is the (relatively) weakest of the four albums, and MG's pre-WGO career was far, far superior to MJ's pre-OTW career.

MG also coulda kicked MJ's azz, and he defo shagged hotter chicks. /images/graemlins/smirk.gif But I'm not sure where the pwnership lies regarding their fathers, i.e. getting killed by your dad as an adult, or getting exploited-gravy trained by him as an 8 year old.

I voted for it and don't own the song (I own "London Calling", though). Never even liked the song all that much until I learned to play it. Now I think it's great.

Agreed. How did "Where the Streets have no name" lose to Bohemian Rhapsody, aka the most overplayed song of all time? How does Live have 20 votes vs Lennon? Sunday Bloody Sunday is getting robbed, so is Marvin, and how Foo Fighters is beating Tom Petty is totally beyond me.

college_boy

Hendrix has to get deducted some points for not writing the song. Gotta go Dylan here.

Michael Davis
03-21-2005, 05:04 AM
"What does Joe DiMaggio have to do with anything?"

That "Joltin' Joe has left and gone away" signifies the end of an era. The song is trying to reassure Mrs. Robinson and when she says that Joltin' Joe has left and gone away, it is a rejection of this aid, a rejection of the idea that prayer or pennance can rid her of her guilt, as in she has committed the act and there's no going back to the old days. Joe DiMaggio signifies happier, innocent times. Really DiMaggio could be replaced by any folk hero.

-Michael
