View Full Version : feel like crap...I damaged my fav. guitar.

I have a Taylor K14 - a Hawaiian Koa guitar that's the sweetest sounding guitar in the world.

Before going to the home game last night, I sat it in my living room chair (one of those low sagging Target chairs) - walked around it a couple times when I got home but totally forgot it was there when I sat in the chair and leaned back (brown guitar, brown fabric - turned on TV, was distracted, etc...) -

I have put a crack along the top all the way to the bridge, and cracked the trim all around the top of the body. It still sounds fine, and I can play it, but my heart is broken inside - I've damaged it and unless it's repaired, I'm sure it'll get worse - you can't put a crack into the top body of a guitar and not have the tension/pressure of the strings not do damage over time (I've loosened them for now, just to be safe)

next week, I'll take it to my fav. guitar repair guy who saved my Les Paul's neck and beg him to fix her - even if it's a few hundred, it's cheaper then a new one, and quite frankly, I love this one too much to give up on her.

Many, good luck w/ that. Taylors are sweet guitars. Not to mention expensive as all hell.

Koa?!??! The K14 is made out of Koa?!?!!?? Man I'm jealous. I don't think I've ever heard a Koa guitar.

yah....sounds like rosewood -

a bit of a replacement for the Brazilian Rosewood that's become scarser in the rainforests these days.

OMFG!!!

That's like my dream guitar!
Poor you, man.
I sure hope it turns out that you can get it repaired and keep it structurally sound (ie. no perpetuating damage from the string tension after being repaired.)

I didn't think about it that night, but the next morning I loosened them

It sounded fine - didn't go out of tune, but if I don't fix it, it'll get worse, I'm sure...

besides, seeing this crack run down front of it just kills me - so next week I'll take it in after things slow down around here.

I love the guy that fixes my guitars - if you're in minneapolis and need work done, go here -

50 bucks????? I don't believe it. That is a steal if it's true.
