Inspired by nothumb's Johnny Cash/Tom Waits thread, I'm presenting the inaugural mixtape (more likely mix-CD-R) challenge. The theme is: "Treatment Bound."

I'll rate each mixtape on a 1-10 scale after a few have been posted, not that my rating matters or anything. I'll post my own later, not that anyone cares.

Treatmend Bound... what does that mean, like about to go to the loony bin? I probably got something for that azz.

Treatment bound...is this like a theraputic wilderness or some other theraputic environment. I have been to both, and am glad to be out of them.

"Treatment Bound" is a song by the Replacements, but that's just a starting point. You could focus on songs about drugs, alcohol, gambling, insanity, psychiatric illness, therapy, rehabilitation, or any combination thereof.

Clarification needed on the theme.

Rolling Stones - Monkey Man
Rolling Stones - Sister Morphine

Just a start, still thinking.

Allllllright. Here's a list for you, it's kind of hasty, may not fit that well, but some good songs here. Didn't want to let anyone sneak in with a few of these.

Morphine - Buena
Jawbreaker - Accident Prone
Nick Cave - The Mercy Seat
The Police - King of Pain
Lou Reed - Ecstacy
Sonic Youth - Hits of Sunshine
Sorry About Dresden - As the Ruins are to Rome
Jawbreaker - Kiss the Bottle
Tom Waits - Bad Liver and a Broken Heart
The Pogues - The Old Main Drag
Warren Zevon - Excitable Boy
Jane's Addiction - Jane Says
Failure - Dirty Blue Balloons
Jets to Brazil - King Medicine
Samiam - Dull
Nirvana - Lithium

BTK you went to Dook so you ought to be all on my dick over Sorry About Dresden, I used to love going to see them. Had to dig into my rarely-spun mid-90's indie files for some of these.

In that case, having no Elliott Smith is a tragedy.

2+2ers had started a soulseek buddy group or whatever, pretty good idea IMHO... never did get around to installing it.

I really like this concept, but I'm having a lot of trouble coming up with a full mix CD I'd deem acceptable, as my taste in music is still very much in its infancy. I'm not familiar with 80% of the bands already listed, for example.

Gimme a bit, though.

Nothumb gets a solid 7.3. There are some excellent picks on there, particularly "Accident Prone" by Jawbreaker.

By the way, my initials are BDK, not BTK. You're confusing me with that serial killer they caught in Kansas.

One of the guys from Sorry About Dresden (Matthew Tomich) runs an excellent Replacements e-mail newsletter called The Skyway (http://www.theskyway.com) that I subscribe to.

"Wasted" orignially by Circle Jerks and covered by Black Flag and No Fun at All should definatly be on the list.

"Johnnys got a problem" by DI would be a good addition, same goes for "40oz to Freedom" by Sublime.

It's not a list, it's a mixtape/mix-CD. Big difference.

weird I just read about BTK. NT gets at least an 8 in my book for the Jets to Brazil song. What a weird dude Blake is.

I'm not going to rate the mixes afterall, because I look like enough of a dick already. Both bort411 and IndieMatty's mixes are awesome. I think nothumb's is the best so far.
