View Full Version : Cool Stuff for apartments?

BusterStacks

I am getting an apartment very soon. I have a couple framed things, some furniture and my computer stuff. Looking for stuff that I should get, it can be anything, preferably cheap. This will be just me, so it can be gadgetry, pictures, lamps, whatever. FWIW, I am 23. Have at it.

The ladies can't resist a man with this in his apartment.

Every time I move I go to IKEA and wander around. I usually find 200-500 dollars worth of good stuff: furniture, lamps, picture frames, plants, rugs, whatever. They have tons of good stuff there and it's all cheap so you don't have to worry about throwing it out or breaking it after a year.

A lady is a totally cool thing to have in any apartment. Preferably a real one, but this one seems nice:

Ha!

I almost used that exact item for my post, but decided I liked the beer idea better.

And by that I mean that I thought it would be funnier.

Hey buster, if we are going to help you, you need to tell us what you have. What kind of TV, stereo, speakers, furniture, etc. Also, what is your budget?

But to name a few:
Dartboard (horshair vs. electronic)
pokertable (duh)

Something like this is mandatory btw.

It works through walls. Hook your computer up to your stereo and have fun.

Seriously, name off what you have and what you need.

BTW, where are you moving to?

Some sort of mattress frame. I find nothing more tacky than a mattress on the floor, and girls will feel the same way.

Get some cool wooden one, I wish I had before I spent all my money on couches and futons, which I dont spend nearly as much time on as my bed.

i buy all my home decor off ebay. its as cheap as things can get without buying bulk, and there is good stuff. lots of artwork, sculptures, candles, whatever. of course, if you want bulky things you cant just pay those shipping charges, but for light things its great.

as for live shops, i shop at Big Lots, TJMax, and Marshalls for home decor. big lots is amazing btw, if youve never gone there you definitely need to.

Tivo is so 2003.

These days, the cool kids have either:

a) A cheap computer running Myth TV

or

b) A cheap computer used to download torrents of your favorite shows.

youre pushing the humor meter.

tivo is amazing. now that ive inducted it into my life, i couldnt live without it. i actually have DVR, but its the same thing. only costs me $7/m from my cable provider.

Umm...I wasn't joking.

Yes, Tivo is great, and a big step up from not using a DVR. But it's also old technology, and MythTV crushes it. And I know quite a few folks who eschew both in favor of their own pieced together "media center" fed exclusively through bittorrent.

Target actually is a really good place to shop for stuff. They have real designers and such do their home furnishings.

IndieMatty
03-20-2005, 12:43 PM
Right on, TJ Maxx and Target and Marshalls all those type places have great more mid 20s type guy pictures/candle holders and stuff on the cheap.

Plus overstock.com has some really nice [censored]. If I had room, there is this sick leather bench I would be buying.

He really was serious. Most people use RSS feeds combined with TV Torrent sites to grab all the shows they miss the next morning. Look into it and save yourself $7/m. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

It saved us a hell of a lot more in my college apartment. If you get all of your shows off of BT, you don't need the $50/month cable TV.

Well I'm actually not moving far, just a couple miles away from where I currently live. The thing is, I don't really NEED anything (that i know of yet), I just want to have my place be cool. I have a couch and chair, coffee table and end tables so far.

I can see the pods being way more expensive than what their worth. Is that the case?

bdk3clash
03-20-2005, 07:08 PM
I guess you pay a premium versus buying bulk grounds and brewing whole pots, but they work out to about $0.25 per pod/cup which is more than reasonable. And they're no mess at all, just pop one in and hit a button. "Cleanup" involves throwing the used pod in the garbage.
