Seems like every site these days are beginning to charge money to download music. I have been using WINMX for sometime now, but it is beginning to glitch on me. Any recommendations?

Avoid Piolet.

The RIAA has put up a bunch of mp3 files on there that don't work when you download them.

I'm as interested as you for the suggestions.

Hasn't Limewire recently started charging a monthly fee?

Have they? I stoped using them a couple of months ago and started using Ares because I liked it a little better.

Just use iTunes. High quality downloads, completely legal, and with JHymn you can convert them to mp3. Don't [censored] the artists.

And $9.99 an album is half of what you pay in stores.

[censored] iTunes. If you're that desperate to spend money on music, don't give it to Macintosh. Spend it on used CDs for 5-8$ in big music stores like Amoeba/Rasputin (insert your local equivalent).

dedicated to music, no other crap on there. it's pretty rare that i can't find what i'm looking for and i listen to some pretty random stuff. even things like DnB dubplates and japanese import 2 song EPs are easy to find on soulseek.

I just tried Limewire today because it was the most popular file sharing software on Downloads.com. It worked fine and everything was free. Morpheus has always worked pretty good for me as well.

I would avoid Kazaa. Unless you pay, a lot of the "songs" you download will either launch a bunch of spyware when you try to play them, or they are dummy songs that sound like a screeching fax machine.

IRC once you work out how to use it is good for movies and games as well.

However I prefer newsgroups, you get whast your given so to speak but is normally all the new stuff inb thegenre you are interested in use Xnews for it.

The beauty of IRC is that it is so non user friendly. This way only the people who know what they are doing use it. Fewer idiots = good.

IRC is always good, but you have to know what you are doing. Try Filetopia though as this is good also. No spyware and they do have a large selection and an easy to use interface.
