Saturday night, I took my monthly trek to the Mirage 10-20 game, and I just wanted to share my observations about the Mirage:

1) The games were very juicy...people were calling raises and even 3 bets with any suited cards and any ace. Won about 7 BBs when the night was done

2) The players in general were very unfriendly...Every time I tried to start a conversation with someone, they usually gave me a snear, like I killed their dog or something...I did have a pleasant conversation with a gentlemen from New York..He was also the biggest fish at the table, but a nice guy nonethless...

3) Behind me, I observed a 40-80 stud game..and is it me, or does it seem that the higher the limits, the more obnoxious the players....I guess when your rich, you feel you have the right to abuse dealers and players...I didn't like what I saw..Also I rarely saw any tipping...must suck for those dealers to have to deal with people like that.

4) Mirage has the best hot chocolate I've ever tasted /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Just some random thoughts about the Mirage 10-20 games..

"I guess when your rich, you feel you have the right to abuse dealers and players..."

I can't imagine there are many rich 40-80 players. The rich fish probably play 75. Odds are most of the players are underbankrolled or their poker bankroll is their main investment. Don't confuse being rich with playing 40-80. It really would not surprise me if the per capita wealth in the 3-6 game at Mirage was higher than the 40-80. Except maybe when Mason's in the 40-80. /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif

I overheard a few of them were waiting for a 75-150 game to get going. A couple of them looked like whales (rolls of hundreds on the tables), that why I concluded that some of these players may be rich.

From my limited experience, Las Vegas poker players are in general far more courteous than those in L.A.

Also, the Mirage has terrific drinks in general, especially the fresh carrot juice.

balt999- I am usually at the Mirage on Saturday. I typically leave by 5pm, so this must be why we have never met. As for the "nasty guys", if you can't join 'em, beat em! /forums/images/icons/grin.gif I usually drink water or green tea while playing, but thanks for the tip on the hot chocolate. LGPG, Babe

Yes they are unfriendly. No one except Dynasty and pokerbabe were amused when I checked with a shrug of my shoulders and a look of futility. Yes they are bad. I won 27BB in my session there (of course I had some good hands, but I also lost with AA and some fish tied me with AK!).

Damn Mirage has no chocolate milk however! When I asked, they made a hot chocolate, and put ice in it. YECH.

Unfortunately, I have to work during the afternoon hrs, so the only time we'll see each other is during the weekends...if I see a beautiful woman sipping on green tea..I'll make sure I'll introduce myself.

Although I think I saw the man they call Dynasty at the 20-40 table...but he left soon after I started..

Most people in this world are very unfriendly, poker players being no exception.

I've seen 40-80 games that were rude as hell, and saw fights break out at 20-40's. I have also sweated friends in 100-200+ games that were basically friendly (save for the occasional paranoid player), and this was in California (The home of the rudest people in the world). I think you see more "successful" poker players at that level, and more players taking shots at 40-80, or regulars in the game who are way under-bankrolled (I'm talking like a $15k roll to play 40-80, basically a session away from dropping back down in limits).

I've never observed the larger games in Vegas, so I can't comment on that.

I've never played in LA, but the LV players are much ruder than most of the players in Colorado. There are a few exceptions. The Lodge in Blackhawk is also the best casino I've seen for not tolerating abusive language to dealers and other players. I wish LV would be more like it.
