View Full Version : Ultimate Song Battle

MEbenhoe
03-18-2005, 04:06 AM
In honor of March Madness, the Ultimate Song Battle. A 64 song tournament, which will end with one victorious at the end. 8 posters enter teams of 8 songs each. Songs must all fall within the pop or rock genre. All beatles songs are DQ'ed for the sake of fair competition, however outside work is allowable. Competitors must rank their 8 songs in order for seeding.

Myself and Edge34 already have spots in, the next 6 posters to post acceptable lists that don't have any duplicate songs are in as well. I hold the sole right to DQ anyone's list I want because I deem their list terrible. On a final note please be honest with your rankings for seedings.

With that to start things off here are mine and Edge's teams

Lennon - Imagine totally deserves a #1 seed.

In addition, Imagine deserves to be the #1 1 seed and play close to home, in the Pwnage region.

My case for the committee is this: all the songs that were submitted by other people suck total ass.

I cannot believe that you ranked Wonderwall higher than Good Vibrations. I would have given Wonderwall the 16 out of my songs.

I didn't rank my songs in order of preference FYI. =p Good vibrations is definitely a better song, even though I put it lower.

But how are you going to determine the winners? Are we going to have OOT polls?

not my fault, you should've read the original post. Seeding was determined at random from the rankings given to me by each person.

Geez. If the voters weren't so <insert picture of guys in spa> Rising Sun would beat American Pie easily while scratching its ass and 8-tabling Stud Hi/Lo

MEbenhoe's team:
1. Billie Jean - Michael Jackson
2. Go Your Own Way - Fleetwood Mac
3. Like A Rolling Stone - Bob Dylan
4. London Calling - The Clash
5. What's Going On - Marvin Gaye
6. Layla - Derrick and the Dominoes
7. Baba O'Riley aka Teenage Wasteland - The Who
8. Sunday Bloody Sunday - U2

* "aka Teenage Wasteland" automatic DQ. One of the best rock songs ever, does not need an "aka."

Edge's Team:
1. Hotel California - The Eagles
2. Dream On - Aerosmith
3. Stairway to Heaven - Led Zepellin
4. Desperado - The Eagles
5. American Pie - Don McLean
6. Jack and Diane - John Mellencamp
7. Black Magic Woman - Santana
8. Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana

* American Pie? The shot clock had to be implemented after this "slowdown offense" was used.
* Desperado? This isn't Sienfield, automatic DQ.

Dead's team:
1. Imagine - John Lennon
2. Wonderwall - Oasis
3. Good Vibrations - Beach Boys
4. Tiny Dancer - Elton John
5. Surrender - Cheap Trick
6. Love Shack - B-52's
7. Tutti Frutti - Little Richard
8. Heroes- David Bowie

* Tutti Frutti: Only works if you are Eddie Murphy impersonating "Little Richard Simmons." Coupled with Heroes, you have an automatic DQ.

Q's Team:
1. Thunder Road-bruce springstein
2. One-U2
3. Kashmir-Led Zeplin
4. Only the good die young- billy Joel
5. Sweet child of mine- GNR
6. U2 - Where the streets have no names
7. All along the Watchtower - Hendrix
8. Don't Fear The Reaper - Blue oyster cult

* Automatic DQ. Two players from the same regular season team (U2).

jesusarenque's team:
1. Honky Tonk Women--Stones
2. Daniel--Elton John
3. Bohemiem Rhapsody--Queen
4. Simon and Garfunkel--Mrs. Robinson
5. American Girl--Tom Petty
6. Welcome to the Jungle--GNR
7. Widespread Panic--Nobody's Loss
8. Margaritaville--Jimmy Buffett

* Automatic DQ: Too much disfunction between the songs. The tourney will never get into a flow.
* Queen = automatic DQ. This isn't Wayne's World.

Michael Davis' Team:
1. Ohio- CSNY
2. Tangerine- Led Zeppelin
3. When a Man Loves a Woman- Percy Sledge
4. House of the Rising Sun- CCR
5. Brown-Eyed Girl- Van Morrison
6. Candle in the Wind- Elton John
7. Lola- The Kinks
8. We are the Champions- Queen

* Automatic DQ. If you don't know one of your own teams, you lose. (Its known as using a ringer).
* We are the Champions - DQ and permanent ban from future tourneys.
* Brown-Eyed Girl - Auto DQ. Nice little song, but once its been heard 1,000 times, its time to retire it.
* Ohio - automatic DQ. Too political, not upbeat. Gets shredded by the run 'n gun.

mmbt0ne's team:
1) Foo Fighters - Everlong
2) Oasis - Talk Tonight (acoustic live)
3) Weezer - Say It Ain't So
4) Live - Lightning Crashes
5) Lenny Kravitz - Are You Gonna Go My Way
6) RATM - Bulls on Parade
7) Tool - Sober
8) 311 - Down

I wish 311 wasn't there, but I guess its tough to have a deep bench in the tourney.

plaster8's team:
1. The Ocean -- Led Zeppelin
2. Jump -- Van Halen
3. Sympathy for the Devil -- The Rolling Stones
4. Sweet Jane -- The Velvet Underground
5. I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide -- ZZ Top
6. Train in Vain -- The Clash
7. Comfortably Numb -- Pink Floyd
8. Won't Get Fooled Again -- The Who

Strong entry. Plaster and mmbt will be in the finals.
