I think this has to be very player dependent. If you think you can push out a smaller diamond here then the bet is obviously a must. If not then you are screwed by a call and even more screwed by a raise. Do you think anyone w/o a diamond stays on the river to a bet? If the guy is a calling station and will call w/o a diamond then the bet is good too. But it seems to me most people will fold to a bet w/o a diamond and call or raise if they have a diamond, so not much gained by this bet. Also you stand the chance of a maniac raise with nothing.

The more I think about it, I like the bet. You either push someone off a smaller diamond and win or you get raised and lose the same bet you would from check calling. Good bet.

FWIW, today someone bluff raised me with bottom pair no flush on the river with 4 to a flush on the board. Clarkmeisters theorem doesn't always owork!
