Blaming guns for killing is like blaming spoons for Rosie O'Donnell being fat.

Florida man killed in poker game robbery

Broward sheriff's office: 'We've got a man dead over $250'

Associated Press

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. - Shooting erupted after two poker players got into an argument at a boarding house, killing one player, authorities said.

"We're not talking high stakes here," said Broward sheriff's spokesman Hugh Graf. "This is not Vegas. This is not Reno. Hell, it ain't even Hollywood Park. It's sad. We've got a man dead over $250."

Joanne Dixon, who lives in the house, said she and several friends were wrapping up for the night early Wednesday when one player attempted a manuver called a "string raise."

A string raise is generally illegal, and some consider it an unethical play. This happens when one player calls an outstanding bet, then reaches back to add money for a raise (without first declaring the intention to raise).

At a home game, this move is quite common as most players are quite inexpert and do this on accident.

"The player who made the original bet went crazy and started yelling at the other guy to get that raise up on out of there." Dixon said.

She continues: "Before anyone could blink, the raiser pulls his gat out and blows the guy's head off. He's all, 'I guess you ain't callin my bet now that you got no head left and all.' And he raked in the $250 pot."

The 38-year-old victim's name was not released.

Dixon concluded: "Well, we all looked around and were like, 'we only have four players, let's play Hearts!'"

Jake Johanson used to have a bit where he said guns don't kill people- bullets do. Guns just make bullets go really fast.
