I would say that it is very very very far from too aggressive. I wouldn't even call it too aggressive if each player started with 1000 chips. I guess that could just be my personal opinion.

Also, I would probably just get rid of one of the early levels and have the typical 1:2 ratio for blinds. Its almost like you went out of your way to make the blinds go up at a odd ratio.

That really isn't overly aggressive. We also start with 1500

I do

5 10
10 20
15 30
20 40
25 50
50 100
75 150
100 200
150 300
200 400
300 600
etc...

20 minute blinds for the first 2 hours and 15 after that. My goal was to keep the blinds slow and low for the first 2 hours so people can get more playing time in. With 10 players we almost always finish in 3-3 1/2 hours

If you want to get more aggressive do
50 100
75 150
100 200
etc..

Is it a limit or NL tourney ? In my game we have a limit tourney with each player starting with 1500 with this blind schedule.
5-10
15-30
25-50
50-100
100-200
150-300
200-400
250-500
500-1000
At this point we switch to NL to finish it off.

As a point of reference we usually have 20-25 min blinds depending on how many players (over 10 we go with 20min),this combined with a few color up breaks usually takes about 4 hrs.

My Bad. NL Tournament. What I am trying to avoid is that it seems like it always takes the first game hours to play since eveyone is tight. I want to speed it up so that 2-3 maybe even 4 games can be played but still letting people feel like they are not being blinded out of the game.

Have the blinds go up faster early on then. No one feels like theyre being 'blinded out' if the blinds go up early because they have so many chips. Thats just one thought. I would say your schedule is good, but I again, have to say I dont know about the blinds. Just level them out and I think people will probably be happy with it.

How many people? If you have 9-10 people I do not see any way of getting under 2+ hours unless the starting chips and blinds are crazy. Unless you all suck. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

You can't have your cake and eat it too , if you want a fast tourney then you have to force action by escalating the blinds at a faster pace , and conceivably turning it in to a push-fest.An alternative is to allow re-buys for the first few levels and allowing people to take a few shots with hands they normally would'nt , but that also puts more chips in play and dragging it out a little longer. IMO the best alternative is to have 2 different paced games , the first with a more gradual blind escalation , and the second one more aggressive.

I think “to aggressive” is all perspective of how long you want the event to be, do you want multiple tournaments or a cash game after the first one, do you want best players to hit the final table on a more regular basis, etc.

We play:

1st hour 25 50
50 100
75 150
2nd Hour 100 200
150 300
200 400
3rd Hour 300 600
400 800
500 1000
4th Hour 600 1200
800 1600
1000 2000
5th Hour 1200 2400
1500 3000
2000 4000
6th Hour 2500 5000
3000 6000
3500 7000
7th Hour 4000 8000
4500 9000
5000 10000

This makes for a 7-10 hour game, with ppl out enough to get a late night cash game started. It also insures the better players make it to the money more often than the lesser. It also works well with a 3 color denom pulling in the last two colors at the final table. With the numbers being easy to work with and remember for everyone, no real oddball 2nd digits.

Couple rule of thumbs that I've seen:

1. Starting buyin should be at minimum 50x the first BB; 75x-100x is probably better.

2. Between rounds 9-12, the BB should be the starting chip count,i.e., starting chips 1000 would mean Round 10 would be 500/1000. Doing this in Round 9 would make for an aggressive tournament while Round 12 would make for a more relaxed pace.

My schedule

NL tourney style games.

Blinds increase every 20 minutes with a $2500 bankroll.
25/50
50/100
100/200
200/400
400/800
800/1600

We usually only make it to the 400/800 round with about 8-10 people. About a 2 hour game.

Since everyone is telling you what they do, I'll tell you two things.

1. You should get rid of the 10-20 (you can get a color off the table now) and the 75-150 blinds. Starting with 1500 and the blinds at 25-50 is just fine. Let the blinds go up every 20 minutes (no need for extended 1st round).

2. My game sometimes goes with a 10 minute 1st level of blinds. Just to get things moving a little quicker.

Good luck.
