A "field day" is sort of like the special olympics between grades / classes / whatever. Sort of a mandatory day of goofing off outside during a school day.
My high school had inter-dorm European handball and ultimate frisbee tournaments as part of theirs.

I would use field day in a sentence like
All the players were so bad I was having a field day and taking all their money.
What you lot are calling field day I would call sports day, we would have egg and spoon and three leg races etc.

Yeah I get that it means to pwn it, but like, having a field day?
