I hope he comes in to correct me if I get any of this wrong, but here's a hand I played against sfer tonight at the Commerce 9-18. What do we have?

Preflop: One limper, sfer raises directly to the limpers left, I threebet directly to sfer's left (I had the best seat in the game). All fold except the limper and sfer. Both call.

Flop: KQ8

Checked around.

Turn: (K) KQ8

Checked to me, I bet, limper folds, sfer calls.

River: (8) KQ8K

Checked to me, I bet, sfer raises, I call.

my first guess is:

sfer: AK
you : QQ

but i can't figure out why you'd check the flop with that. you might have been thinking you had a monster, and wanted to induce sfer to bet the turn?

sfer KJs or KTs
you AQo

I'd much rather be on his right than on his left.

I'd give you AA and him KJs.

Would MD really check behind on this flop with AA?

You have QQ. Sfer has AK or KK. It would help to know if sfer's move is an isolation attempt, and if your 3-bet is a reaction to that.

It would also help to know what position you guys are in. Are you late, middle, or early?

I can't imagine what you would have that you both check the flop with but then value bet the river and just call a raise. JJ or TT maybe? I'm guessing sfer has KJ or KT.

What was the limper like...Was sfer likely isolating? What positions were you in?

I put sfer on A8s. You checking a K on the flop with a draw-heavy board, combined with a turn K makes his 8 seem good. River 8 means he just beat your mid-high pocket pair.

I put you on tens or jacks.

You have TT or JJ, he has AQ.

Why would you rather be on his right? He was doing a ton of raising, playing extremely LAG. He was very much a thinking LAG, though, and pretty much worked me ragged all night.

The reason I've usually heard for this is that it allows you to buy the button frequently. That is, it capitalizes on the "tight" part of TAG. Clarkmeister probly has other reasons too....

Well this definitely does not describe sfer, or did not in this game.

I think it was JA Sucker who posted about why it doesn't make sense to give a free card on a board with two big cards. Was there a particular reason why one of you did so here?

How's the 9/18 been recently?

Honestly, I have no idea how the 9-18 has been, I really stay away from B&M rooms now, as I seem to make as many mistakes there in one session as I do in an online session where I play 17x as many hands or so.

Also, I would never, ever check down something like QQ on that flop. Sfer knows this. In fact he managed to peg like every hand I held all night. I would say he is just really good, but he was also getting really lucky. I remember one time I coldcalled with A5s and he said, "Good luck with your suited ace, ace-five."

Two things that might have been on Michael J. Fox's mind at the time. One, he had watched me donking around at 4/8 with The Dude and his friend and sweated me on a hand where I raised 63o UTG and flopped trips. Two, I had twice blown him off better hands on the flop with middle/bottom pair in multiway pots where I was in, at best, third place, only to get there on the river.

"Two, I had twice blown him off better hands on the flop with middle/bottom pair in multiway pots where I was in, at best, third place, only to get there on the river."

In fairness to me, in both hands there was serious doubt I had the best hand. In fact, on one of them the flop was T87 and I had T5 from the BB and am 100% certain I didn't have the best hand. The other hand I had QJ on a J75 flop and another guy was throwing serious heat too. But yeah, I got worked.

Also, I think sfer is my favorite 2+2er, although that may be influenced by the fact that he was slightly intoxicated.

Finally, sfer was definitely donking around in the 9-18 too. I should have included this in my original post, as I think Clarkmeister was assuming this wasn't the case, unless Clarkmeister wants to checkraise and limp-reraise him a bunch.

You guys are all wrong about me. My plan was to make my hand look as full of BS as possible.
