Oopponent is 71/37, 2aggro.

No great read, but quite a wacko, whenever he raises preflop, he ALWAYS caps, then he usually checks the flop...

strange, anyway, here it is.

I have A /images/graemlins/heart.gifA /images/graemlins/spade.gif on the button.

Villian openraises, I 3bet, he caps, I call.

Flop 8 /images/graemlins/spade.gif7 /images/graemlins/diamond.gif5 /images/graemlins/heart.gif

check bet call

Turn 8 /images/graemlins/diamond.gif

check bet call

river 7 /images/graemlins/club.gif

bet, my action?

I dunno. Everyone says raise b/c they think he has a bare ace and will call a raise?

FWIW I believe he would pay off a raise with ace high, king high, and any pocket pair.

PP would have to be > 99, pretty unlikely.

I guess it's almost as unlikely that he would just call on the flop with a 7 or 8.

So he'll mostly fold but almost can't have a hand that beats you?

with his stats, I did think that he could have an 8 or 7 here and be bet-3betting.

I dunno. Would he not have made any noise at all on the flop or turn with either a 7 or 8? (Assuming he puts you on either an overpair or overcards.) If he thinks you are only 3-betting him pre-flop with a big pair, then he could reasonably play a 7 or 8 like this.

Gets down to the read, I guess. I don't really have a strong opinion here. I'm just trying to work through why everybody else thinks it is an easy raise.
