Thank goodness it's Friday, thought the SPM when he woke up! Yesterdays defeats didn't hurt quite as much with the dawn of a new day. With the SPM's three S's out of the way, he woke his son up, it was time to head back to Soaring Eagle and the Hold'em tournament. After a breakfast for champions grease eggs, grease fried potatoes, beacon and toast dripping with butter the SPM was ready for the tournament. His cholesterol battle would not be won today but there was high hopes for winning a few Hold'em battles and who knows maybe winning the tournament war.
The tournament cards where in the air at nine a.m. sharp, three players at table 11 had not yet arrived but there chips where in play. The first round had the blinds at 15/30 and they would increase every half hour until there was just one man standing on the battlefield. The SPM splashed his first raise into the pot and took down a few chips, at the end of the first round the SPM was up $500. A gleam in his eye, hope in his heart and delusions of grandeur put the SPM in aggressive mode. The King brothers arrived and the SPM said "RAISE!" "RE-RAISE!" said the warrior to his immediate left, and a gang of thugs joined in on the battle. The King brothers told the SPM to fight with honor, show no fear, "RE-RAISE!" said the SPM as he splashed his chips into the pot. Before the SPM's chips hit the felt, he heard the sound of a loud "CAP IT!" The King brothers fought hard and bravely but they were no match for the pocket Aces. "A man should know his limitations," winked the winner of a huge pot. It sure is amazing how those King brothers are such ace magnets. If they don't flop an ace, someone always seems to have a couple in their pocket just to reinforce the first rule of engagement. It ain't over till the fat lady sings. There's no need to tell you all the bad beat wows of tournament play. The SPM's last hand was two pocket hooks that drowned at the river when Big Slick caught an a ace on the river. Next tournament I think I'll play with Aces in my hand, then we'll see what's up their sleeves. Maybe four cards to a flush?
The ring games where lively and the dealers where faster than white on rice. I was very impressed with the Soaring Eagle dealers, very professional. Had a winning weekend, stopped at the Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City, IN on the way home. They have a new poker room, a huge rake like all the Mid West Casinos, 10% up to $5.00. Their 10/20 game is a time rake, $5.00 per half hour. I don't like time rake and I don't care what the math is, I'll stay with raking the pot at 10% up to five bucks. Don't waste your time giving me all the math on how time is a better deal. I'm math challenged. Well that's all I can say now, you know that z hates when I get long winded.
SPM,...play long and prosper...
