This was my first hand at the table, so I had no read on villain.

I'd cap the flop, and if he still leads into you on the turn then call down unless you fill up. Your line might be better, but I really don't want to be 3-bet on the turn.

I think you played it perfectly. Nice hand.

What's the purpose for calling the flop 3-bet rather than capping it? Aren't we just risking an unprofitable 3 bets on the turn if he really did flop a straight?

I think I would've capped the flop, and if he continued betting the turn, just call down. (I have weak tight tendencies, tho, so I may be wrong.)

Raising the turn after not capping the flop is a bit weird, I think. Doesn't change the hand that much IMHO, Hero still slowed down appropriately.

I'd easily be doing this for added value when I'm a little more sure top set is currently winning. He's going to call your raise in a pot that big. I think here he might be sitting on a lower set or two-pair enough to take his line, but I dunno.

not capping the flop encourages villian to bet into us on the turn, so we can raise. capping the flop will usually precipitate a check on the turn if the villian has a hand we beat, when we'd like him to bet into us.

to the OP, i'd have capped the turn because I just don't think he flopped a straight. then if he led the river i'd call down. but i tend to spew when i have top set on a very unthreatening board (excluding exactly one hand)

SB has bet into and 3-bet a preflop raiser though. He is likely to have a hand worth betting again on the turn. I would be surprised if he checked a rag turn if Hero capped. T8, QT, J9, Q8, 88. Whatever, I'm not going to argue about minutiae /images/graemlins/smile.gif
