I have around 2200 MP3s from my old computer and want to get those onto my new computer. Now, for some reason I can't get the CD Drive to work on the old computer so I can't burn them onto CDs and transfer them that way. Someone told me about directly linking the computers, is this possible and how do I do that? Is there any other way? Thanks

do you have an ipod? you could load them onto that and then load them off, right?

No Ipod or any exterior MP3 player.

Go to RadioShack and buy a crossover cable (its a specially made Cat 5 cable).

I say radioshack because they had reasonable prices when I went there after buying one from BestBuy at like 500% markup.

FWIW RadioShack was about $6 and BestBuy was like $25 for the same cable.

After you get the crossover cable, all you will need to do is set up a network, and share the hard drives.

of a virus coming over to the new computer from the old computer?

If all you are moving are the MP3's, I don't see how any virus would come with the files.

You could take the hard drive out of your old computer and put it in your new one.
