View Full Version : Odds Question for NCAA Hoops

03-08-2002, 11:30 AM
Earlier this week, I placed a small bet on Oregon to win the whole kit and kaboodle.

The odds posted for Oregon to win the NCAA title were 50-1.

My reasoning was that if they continue to track in the Top 10, it's likely they'll be seeded no worse than third or fourth in whatever bracket they wind up in; I thought the payoff was pretty decent for a likely third-seeded team.

Good move? Bad move?

(Oregon crushed Washington yesterday, but I understand they were behind by 13 in the first half. Makes me feel good that they could win by 20+ after being down 13; makes me feel awful that they were even down by 13.) :-)

I think the long odds are due to Oregon's curiously low RPI ranking (for RPI, goto: www.sportsline.com/u/basketball/college/2001/SPLNRPI/index.html (http://www.sportsline.com/u/basketball/college/2001/SPLNRPI/index.html) ). They are a lowly 29th, primarily due to their schedule, while they crack the top 10 in all major polls, and are as high as 4 in at least one index. I like the bet, as long as you are having fun with it (which I'm sure you are) and aren't counting on it to come in so you can pay your April rent. They will have to outlast the likes of Maryland, Kansas, and the Dukies, so it ain't gonna be easy. Btw: www.sharpsportsbetting.com (http://www.sharpsportsbetting.com) (Stanford Wong's site) is a great forum for making sports posts. You'll get some interesting responses there. Good luck!
