i need to stop eating meat & eating more meat-substitute type stuff and, as a n00b, i'd appreciate any & all suggestions in this space.

I bought some portabello burger patties from Trader Joe's last night and was really surprised they tasted as good as they did.

What other things like this are good?

thx in advance,
--oj.

Beef. It's all-natural.

morningstar generally makes pretty tasty stuff. check out frozen section at the grocery store. there is usually a section with just vegetarian stuff (at least in all that i have seen). i have tried just about everything morningstar has to offer and enjoyed it.

tofu dogs are good if you can find them.

Morningstar and Gardenburgers. Also, talk to your doctor, lean beef and chicken breast/fish should actually help cholesterol.

*To note, I enjoy veggie burgers, but just made a reservation at Angelo Maxis for tonight.

I think Boca makes the best veggie burgers- I prefer the soy burger type stuff to the "garden" burger stuff by a wide margin. There is a company called Quorn which makes really good fake chicken stuff, but the boca and morningstar chicken patties are both pretty tasty. Boca also makes sausages which are okay.

My vegetarian roommate used to eat some sort of black bean burgers. They stunk up the whole apartment when he cooked them.

Have you tried the vegetarian place on 24th next to the malay satay hut? (inbetween where blimpies used to be and malay specifically). They opened a couple of months ago, and you might be able to find some things on their menu that you could reproduce or pickup at the store.
