View Full Version : Pre-flop decision in PLO, did I make it wrong?

10-01-2002, 01:06 AM
I am quite new to pot limit Omaha (high only), and I as of yet don't have a good sense for the value of hands pre-flop. The following situation occured in a 1/2 blinds game.

UTG folds and UTG+1, a loose-aggressive player, makes it 4 to go (strange, but not unusual). Folded to cutoff who calls and button raises pot making it 19. I know little about the button. Small blind, an incredibly loose and quite bad player, calls. I'm in the BB with a stack of about 150, UTG+1 raiser has 200, and the rest have a little less than 100. I have 8654 single suited and call. A horrible mistake??? UTG+1 now raises pot making it about 100 to go. Cutoff folds, then button and SB both call all-in. I'm now getting 4-1 odds with another 50 left on the turn (only other player with money left is UTG+1, who has me covered). What do I do now??? Thanks for the help, results in the next post.

Flop came 975 with two clubs. I bet my last 50 of course and get called. Turn and river make the board 99755 with no flush, and my hand is good.

UTG+1 had AAJ2 with one suit, button had AQJT with one suit, and SB (HA HA HA) had Q942 rainbow. If the cards are run cold, how do I do against these hands (assuming my flush draw is not good)?

code:

Omaha, 4-handed, pot 4, cost 1, preflop, full deck, 376992 boards
8s-6s-5h-4d: 33.52% 1:2 (EV +0.34)
Ah-Ad-Jh-2c: 28.73% 2:5 (EV +0.15)
As-Qs-Jc-Td: 27.75% 3:8 (EV +0.11)
Qc-9s-4h-2d: 10.00% 1:9 (EV -0.60)

So you turned out to be a favorite mostly b/c UTG+1 and the button hold many of each others outs, however, against 3 random hands, your 8654ss is a 23.7% dog.

Hi Ignatius,

small question:

"however, against 3 random hands, your 8654ss is a 23.7% dog."

Since in most games, a big reraise and lots of action preflop makes it certain that one opponent has AAxx, how does our hero's hand do then? Against what hands would he like to be up against? Are there any better cases than the one described?

Thanks,

Erd.

> one opponent has AAxx, how does our hero's hand do then?

same thing (23.9%). It's all about them holding each others outs while your hand being live. e.g. if you give one opponent AAxx and each of the others an ace w/ random sidecards, your equity goes up to 30%.

> Against what hands would he like to be up against? Are there any better cases than the one described?

The best I could come up with is 2345 rainbow for all of them, making you a 88.05% favorite. Realistically however, I'd say that 2:3 is about as good as it gets, which is the actual scenario with the flush draw being live (40.84%).
