List your favorite games for other chess players to appreciate. Give comments when applicable. No repeats.

Here are my favorites, copied from the thread with the Byrne - Fischer game:

Kasparov - Topalov, Wijk Ann Zee 1999 (http://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1011478)
Adams - Kasparov Linares 2005 (IMO best game played at Linares this year) (http://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1333302)
Vygodchikov - Alekhine, 1909 famous rook sacrafice by alekhine (http://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1011786)
Fischer - Tal, 1959 (http://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1044001)
Tal - Larsen 1965 (http://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1139729) Samisch - Nimzowitsch 1923 - IMO best game from Nimzowitsch's My System (http://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1102400)

PS please don't include any game where you think that you would be able to find the winning move (assuming its an attacking game) unless you are IM+. Hopefully that'll weed out the routine sacrafices etc. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Enjoy, everyone!

I dislike the Fischer - Tal game because Fischer misses Rae1 instead of Qc6

Great games. Opera doesn't meet the requirements but it's a classic so I'll let it slide.

Kasparov Topalov is sick. That combination is so long and then it's still not all that clear when the smoke clears.

i wish i had more time to study the complexity of each move and actually understand why the made each move.

i'm always left wondering "why didn't they do this.."

anyways, how long would one of these matches take? a few hours?

The biggest chess tournaments in the U.S. usually give each player 2 hours to make their first 40 moves. So, after each player has made 40 moves, it's possible for as much as 4 hours to have elapsed. After tha, each player is given another hour to complete the game. So, a game could last as long as 6 hours.

In international events like the ones Kasparov would play in, the time controls would usually be somewhat similar but probably wouldn't have a sudden death time control until the third time control.

Basically, a complex, close game like the ones above probably were between 3.5 and 6 hours long.
