But if I picked a guard based on heart and determination I would take McNamara, hands down.

42% FG
41.7% 3PT
93.5% FT
22.8 PPG

Salim
51.6% FG
52.5% 3PT
90.6 FT
18.4 PPG

Not even close. And don't give me the "Reddick is the only option" nonsense. Sheldon Williams and Daniel Ewing are much better than Channing Frye and Hasaan Adams.

The only reason that Redick averages 4 more per game is because he takes 3 more foul shots per game.

Salim is clearly the better guard, and much better at ball handling and man to man defense.

i'll take g-mac in a heartbeat in a pressure situation. i still remember a game from last year (i think), where su was down by 1 to notre dame in the closing seconds. they had enough time to drive/pass down low for a 2 to win. instead, g-mac just pulls up and buries a 3. su wins. PWNED!

Redick doesn't have nearly the ability to singlehandedly lead a team to the championship. Now that he has two years of play under his belt, look to cp3 to get the job done:

He plays basketball well until he is up against real guards who play defense and, more importantly, force him to play defense.

This is why SU is going to win the whole tournament.

GMac, Hakim, and Pace are on fire, and the sophomores are starting to contribute every game. Roberts is averaging 8 points a game now and McCroskey is getting a lot better at the fastbreak.

Watkins is proving to be an able backup for Forth at center, and Nichols is a good forward replacement who can drill the 3.

If the sophomores step it up in the tourney then I don't think anyone in the country can beat SU.

/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I don't watch every game, but I do watch a lot of the ACC.
Redick is the best shooting guard in the ACC.

Did you see that ACC game against NC State? Unreal!

Scouting Report: A streaky shooter, but still one of the purest in the country ... Has terrific elevation, discipline and poise in his form ... Releases the ball at the top of his elevation ... Much of the reason for his hot and cold tendencies lies in his shot-selection, not mechanics ... Possesses range that borders on unreal, and he occasionally gets caught up in that ability ... Will take 3-pointers from well beyond the stripe ... Uses his outside shooting ability to create mid-range shots for himself, throwing pump fakes to open up pull-up jumpers ... Has solid finishing ability when he gets deep in the lane, but is not an outstanding athlete ... Defense needs improvement.

I agree with all of this. I will say he's the hardest working dude in the ncaas as far as trying to get open.

being 10 full % points worse in both shooting % categories from the field doesn't leave a whole lot of room for your opinion. Were it maybe 1-2% different, sure, you'd have a case. But as it stands, you are basically saying the sky is green. /images/graemlins/smirk.gif

He's still much more valuable to his team. First of all, he has to work harder than anyone else in the country to get open, thus his percentage can be expected to be lower than Stoudamire's. Also, he creates points for his teammates just by being on the court. Like you saw in the GT game most recently and many other games this year, Redick causes teams to not be able to help on defense, creating easy 1 on 1 opportunities for layups for Ewing, Williams, Randolph, etc. Knowing that Redick's defender won't leave him to help on D for fear of leaving him wide open for a 3 pointer is the biggest advantage any player in all of the NCAA gives his team simply by being on the court.

Ahh yes and I forgot. He is definitely the best clutch shooter in the ncaa. Think of it this way, if you had to pick one person in the ncaa to take a shot to win the game, Redick is the easy choice by a mile.

yeah, way to take a single example to disprove an entire statement. According to this logic you could say, if you had to pick any team in the ncaa to win a game against a random college team it would have to be Illinois, and I would then disprove it by saying, "like that time they lost to ohio state? i call bull"

The point is that statistically there's no such thing as clutch. It took a while, but I eventually came around on this one.

He's a 10% worse shooter than Salim. Case closed. Your argument is as absurd as if I picked a 31% shooter and said he was better than Reddick. Maybe if he didn't try and shoot it every single time he touched the ball he'd be less of a chucker and his %'s would go up.
