View Full Version : Question on ethics

I have been playing in a pot limit game in Estonia on weekends since spring. Bunch of regulars are without exception very nice people. Recently a new guy has been playing and he is often rude to the dealers and to players sometimes as well.

Saturday night there was another new player, very nice lady from Finland, works as a pit boss herself, a pleasure to play with. One hand she and the rude guy are both in til the end, she is all in. She shows her hand, AK for top pair with kicker. The rude guy says that's good, then after a bit he turns over his winning hand (nines on board, he had a nine). What an a..hole. unbelievable. To pull a stunt like that in a public casino, especially to a stranger and a nice lady at that? I think in some other places he might have gone home with no teeth. She said a few things to him like "I hope you enjoyed that". Then a bit later said to him very calmly that when it's a showdown he should just show his hand and not play games like that and the guy just looked the other way and ignored her.

Should someone be barred for such behaviour? Next time I go there I plan to talk with the manager and see what he thinks. My only idea so far is that if the manager does not want to bar the guy I will exercise my right to not allow the rude guy's lady to sit behind him all night petting and kissing him. I have just been ignoring that but apparently there is a rule there that if any player objects to a full time spectator we have the option of having the spectator removed. I figure this might teach him that if he wants to be treated with consideration he should have some consideration of his own.

I would appreciate any/all thoughts on this subject as I really don't know what else to think/do. That's about the rudest behavior I have ever seen at a poker table (at least in a public casino) and I'm just stunned.

Sure, he should be barred, but he probably won't be. I would talk to management and see what they are willing to do about the situation. If they seem uncooperative, then yes, I would complain about his woman sitting behind him during the game.

This guy is no good for a game,as a matter of fact he can ruin a good game and run off the kind of player you want in a game.Do whatever you can to make him uncomfortable, including reporting his behavior to the manager. /forums/images/icons/mad.gif

i really doubt that your going to get him barred for slowrolling. some players play for sheer ego which i assume this guy does. good idea about getting the spectator gone though. that's what id try and do, since he may be doing it for his audience. i wouldnt really complain to management though. i dont really see them doing anything. the most they may say to him is that it slows the game, but other than that...

there's ruder behaviour than this...irate table coaches, chips being thrown at one another, physical confrontations...many others.

but when i see an idiot like this it makes the pots i snap him off on even funner to stack into my chips. he may be doing it for a reaction, so why give him one. that's what can feed this guy.

grit your teeth, and maybe subtley tell mgt. but again, i wouldnt expect them to really do anything. also, it's a pot limit game. so if he's a bad player he should bust out eventually as the edge is much more in the better players advantage here.

just some thoughts...

Thankyou for your thoughts, I agree with everything and I think you're right about his playing for the audience.

There is ruder behavior true, but the thing is that it's a small group of people that play at this place, and everyone else is so friendly that this moment really stood out. The poker here is is just starting out and the manager appreciates input from anyone who sounds like they know what they're talking about. I suspect he will actually do something although I'm not sure what. He had already heard something about the incident and we agreed to talk about it later. It's not a case of me complaining, just 2 people discussing a situation that affects us in the same way (we both have an interest in the long term health of the game). I suspect that he might already have talked with others that were there as well. Anyway I'll find out his thought on Friday.

treat the guy just like kern treated worf during the first half of star trek tng, season 3 episode 17,Sins of the Father, stardate 43685. (even though your his peer and not his superior)

Would you please enlighten one of the "unwashed masses" who doesn't happen to be holding a phaser pistol or wearing a Captain Kirk uniform, exactly how Kern Treated Worf.

Much appreciated,
(one who has seen most or all Star Trek episodes, but doesn't memorize them)

well u really had to see it but in a nutshell kern, as part of the federation-klingon exchange program, becomes the enterprises first officer. (like riker went and served as first officer aboard a klingon ship).

well anyway hes a total disciplinarian and very formal and demanding and finds fault with everyone - except worf.

towards worf hes very condescending, such as congratulating and praising him on completing a routine scan.

needless to say, worf was almost provoked into killing him.

but actually i just watched it last night so it might not be the best advice it might be just that i just watched it last night.

p.s. you can download all the episodes off of kazaa (if you know the episode number or title)

one thing i've noticed about idiots like this is, they can dish it out but they can't take it in. if you do the same thing to him, they usually shut up.

i was playing at a game with a guy like this. he was shouting and yelling and berating people. everyone got sick of it, so a few guys started mimicking him like ,"you think top pair is good?!" or "you called with that garbage, here's a real hand" it was funny for me to observe but not participate, and the guy finally cut out his bullshit.
