Blind Stealing Transcript

Seems like sometimes I can steal a lotta blinds, but most of the time I seem to just about steal enough blinds to keep even with the blinds I pay out or maybe a little bit better and then my success depends on winning when I am called or have a good enough hand to call someone elses steal. This happens often enough because people often call with bad hands when they see you are a crazy all-in fool.

However, maybe some of you are doing better than that and are having your stack grow and grow through stealing. Maybe I still am not aggressive enough in the middle of the game.

I would love to see someone who is successful and very very aggressive post a whole game transcript.

think your best bet is to watch a couple of the 1k tables - usually very well played (obviously) and tons of blindstealing - usually every hand at level 4 and above. can learn alot from some of em

This is kind of a special case because I was chipleader on the bubble, but it is a very good example of aggression and stealing due to stack sizes. Please notice how when the blinds were 100 200, I wasn't that interested in moving in preflop because the blinds weren't as important. Once they bumped up to 150 300, you can see what I did /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Once again, I'm surprised by the fold here. Preflop, hindsight being 20/20, this was a good move as Villain had JJ. But more questions.

Since you sit to the right of Big Stack, is this considered "position" for this type of play? Meaning that big stack, or 2nd big stack is pretty much relegated to folding all hands until ITM?

Also, did you fold this hand because the blinds have pot odds to call this, thus it's not worth it for you to be a part of this? What are your thoughts on this fold? I'm very interested.

FWIW - this happens to be my favorite hand from the transcript. By bullying out cmack with an absolute crap hand, you almost ensure that the smallest stack will triple up for free and keep the bubble unpopped. Not only that, but you get cmack roaring mad which is always worth a couple of t chips in my mind. beautiful play.

I agree with this statement, but both small stacks no longer have "room" left to steal chips from. Thus, I would assume the only stack left to steal from is 2nd stack. Which doesn't seem very likely unless the smaller stacks double up. OK, so I just answered my own question.

Yes, you are reading it right. He wants to keep the short stack in while there are still four left so that he can easily build his stack in such a way that when it gets to heads up, it isn't 50/50, it's more like 70/30 or better. This hand history is a great example of bubble play working well, sometimes you get a nitwit with a lot of chips making a terrible call with KJ when another guy is still in the tournament with only 500 chips and you lose to him b/c you only have 53o, but it is still good bubble play!! No. By folding out all other players hero makes automatic profit since all-in guy only has half the BB to play for, while hero gets half the BB the other guy just put in plus half his own original BB - plus a swing at the main pot.

Yes, assuming only a few hands that he will call with (he was a tight player anyways), and also if I give him this pot he pulls to almost even with me, and I want to assert my dominace as quickly as possible.

On a side note, with the blinds still at 150 300, it might be too soon to do this, however I really like the two shorter stacks being almost the same size. Really makes them try and outlast each other and the bigger guy trying to wait on me to bust them.

It's all because of the stack sizes. IN the first hand I would be stealing from shortstacks in the BB and SB, who are more likely to call. In the second hand, I am stealing from the person who is 2nd in chips in the big blind who will have to have a huge hand to call. The other two had been waiting for the other to bust so I didn't count on them calling without premium hands, and the BB was almost assured to fold.

Yup, this was for the sole purpose of giving the little guy chips. I love this play. Also, since the little guy had less chips than the big blind, I am kinda on a freeroll here. I can either A) win the pot and be in the money or B) Lose the pot and have the small stack hangeroner guy still in. It is definitely a win win situation.

This pretty well depends on stack sizes/blinds/table history, etc. But in theory there is a definite possibility that you should do this at some time. However, in practice, if a shortstack goes allin with say, 550 chips, and I have the BB of 400 in with KK in the BB, I would probably call (at least online). The reason for this is just because I would be scared someone would report me, and party would see that I folded KK to a tiny raise and think I was colluding.
