Yesterday we were playing NBA street 3, then the game locked up. I rarely had problems with my ps2 system but it seemed screwy the past couple of days. Well after the lock up I tried booting several different games. I got the dreaded disc read error, where the ps2 can not even read the current disc. I tried it again today and still no luck.

So it looks like I need to get a replacement new slim model ps2. People on ebay will buy broken ps2 for $40-50. I was debating trying to pop off the case and try some of the steps on the net to fix the laser, but I have a feeling it probably isn't going to improve the situation.

Damn you Sony.

I bought my second ps2 last year after I think 5 years of owning the original one. I wasnt pissed at all. Between me, my 2 brothers, and all our friends, 5 years of wear and tear is good enough. Some cars dont even last 5 years.

What I am hoping, sell the broken one ($40), sell the network adapter ($20), sell a bundle of old games ($30). $90 collected, and buy a new slim model on ebay (probably $120). So hopefully I only spend $30-40 getting a new model.

I cleaned the lens and it took me only 15 minutes and it has been working fine for the past 6 months. Also you can just save for the next generation which isnt that far way.

try turning it upside down or on its side first.
