1st level of 5 +.5 on stars. I'm dealt JJ, like to play for a set or a terrific flop. not much of a fan of raising here and getting into a coinflip or a guessing game in a big pot this early.

when the guy behind me called my raise, alarms went off and i gave up on the hand. was this wrong? should i have pushed on the turn? i think the bet on the river was small enough to take a chance, was i wrong on that? help!

Preflop limp - ok I guess, I would have raised 4x BB.

Flop - you were first to act, a near pot-sized bet is in order here- do you think the button called with a 2 or a 3? His play smells like a sooted wheel Ace to me, but who knows, it's a $5.

You either won the hand, or he flipped up QQ-AA, right?

when he called the check raise, AA/KK/QQ/22/33/45 immediately jumped out. turns out he had 88 and turned his boat. which makes me feel happy i didnt push, but makes me think a push may have been in order because he could have had 55-TT, and perhaps a wheel draw or 45. maybe even AK/AQ/KQ.

he did double me up a few rounds later, but i finished 5th anyway when i pushed with A7o on the btn for my 1000 chips 75/150. and he insta called with K9 for half his chips, and turned a straight.

I like the way you played it if you assumed he would bet the flop after your check.

I like a pre-flop raise if first to act.

Post flop..by not raising pre we have a alot of players...but...I bet hoping to take down pot or if I get reraised I muck. I don't mind your check raise line either.

Turn. After my check raise getting called I shut down on turn like you did.

River...I don't pay off the 240. I decided when my check-raise got called that I am not putting another chip into the pot unless my hand improves.
