after running bad for the past 2 months, my bankroll had been depleted, leaving me without my poker fix for a couple weeks. now i got some extra cash, and i'm headed to the hills! (that's where the casinos are here). i'm feeling confident, but i'm just anxious to get back to the table.

my inquiry is this. i've noticed a few times when i'm aggressive with AK suited or not, and i don't make a pair, but represent a big hand, i still get called to the river with someone who has bottom pair. if it was someone who had top pair i can totally understand, but usually it's someone who has a very small pair, with many overcards on the board. i'm talking raise and reraise pre-flop, betting or raising post flop, and betting the river. i usually have a fairly tight aggressive table image.

do i have a tell? i don't think so, i try to act the same whether i have it or not. or are these guys just idiots and i should be thankful they'll call to the river with such garbage? it's low limits, so i don't think many people even try to catch tells, but it seems to happen quite a bit.

anyway, let's hope this break is what i need to turn things around.

I had AK once heads up and I pumped until the river, only to lose to a player who had pocket deuces. I dont have a tell, he just didnt know how to play poker.

You will encounter situations like this, it happens. Some players want to play. They like action and will call anythnig down. Take advantage of it when you have a monster hand.

Play well this weekend.

MG,

This player who did not know how to play poker may have been playing correctly in spite of his lack of knowledge. I often call the preflop raiser to the river when the pot becomes heads up after the flop with an underpair or bottom pair. Here are my criteria:
An EP raiser, at least one caller between he and I or blinds that are likely to defend and passive players yet to act behind me. Under these circumstances and the flop comes 9 or T high rainbow I assume he raised with AK rather than AA KK QQ or JJ. Therefore I play as if I have the better hand and often I do. This needs to work less than half the time to be profitable. Often I raise his flop bet to either get a free turn card or get heads up. If I am not reraised he must then prove to me he has better than Ak. Of course any scary turn or river card may upset my applecart. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

The times I hit a set and get paid off coupled with the other percentages and circumstances makes it seem correct to me to ocassionally play in this manner.

They are probably playing poorly. But you need to take that into account when you are making your decisions and make whatever appropriate adjustments are necessary. You may want to read the loose games section in HPFAP.
