Blinds are high, table still too full, and a couple hands ago got my JJ cracked by a 4 on the board river flush so now I'm short stacked. Good time to start getting hands like 84, 53, etc and get into the BB with 72 (but it's soooted). Am I pitifully weak here? Is this the one time you actually go against every fiber of your being and call an all in with 72?

Nah, you can still double up a few times and get back in it, I've seen it done quite a few times.

Will someone pleas tell me if my math is correct. I can use the help.

Hero vs two overcards is about 37% vs. 63% from two dimes. This is 1.70 to 1. He would need to put in 480 to win 1255 (780 from Villan, 150 from SB, and the 300 BB already in the pot) Therefor pot odds are 2.6 :1

Hero vs an overpair (10,10)is 84% vs 16%, or 5.25:1

Hero vs A,6 is 60% vs. 40%, or 1.5:1

I'm thinking I might go ahead and call this and hope he has two overcards. I'll try downloading pokerstove and see if I come up with a different answer.

Looking at the stacks, I'm in trouble even if I fold. At this point in the tournament, do you need less than correct pot odds, pot odds, or more than pot odds to make a call.

OK, The pokerstove download was successful. I put villian on any pair, any ace, any two broadway. Results say villan = 68%, hero = 32%, or 2.1 : 1. I guess this is a call ????

Villain is probably closer to any two, here. 72 is not the worst hand heads-up. And I hate to say "but it's sooooooted," but dude, it's sooooted.

You have to call. Being left with 480 and the SB coming up is about as good as dead. But you should have pushed in one of the 2-3 hands before your BB. I'll let others elaborate. /images/graemlins/cool.gif

I may be giving Villian too much credit (leak in my game), but I figured he had a decent hand. He's going all in with 3 people left to act in a situation where he's pretty close to being guarenteed a call. I put him on any 2 broadway, Ax, Kx, any pair. Stick that in your pokerstove and smoke it.
