I may be obtuse, but how is this spam? He's not linking to any poker site. This is a job posting seeking a developer for a poker site most likely.

Interesting. This seems to imply that some new site is starting to target the Asian markets, rather than a new site is adapting it's software, which probably would not take as much effort. Or maybe I am totally missing something. My hope is the Party will have software usable for people in Japan, S Korea, Singapore and Hong Kong, which would add more recreational (weak) players with a disposable income. I have been hoping for this for a long time.

This is obviously not spam. Don't bug the moderater please people!

I've wondered why those countries don't have online poker. Does anybody know what the laws are regarding this sort of thing in Japan, Korea, etc.?

We should be fine as long as 2+2 is not translated into Korean /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have wondered about this as well. I use to play RTS and MMORPG's (Poker is a MMORPG really)

Koreans while never seemingly to be in the top 1% were always a complete pain in the butt. They always seemed to fill the space between the top 1-20%.

Although the reason for this I believe is because 90% of them play out of big gaming halls. The gang gets together everyday at the gaming hall and all sit down near each other to share information while playing.

One way a lot of RTS games prevented this, was to keep people that have the same IP addy from playing in the same game. It seemed each gaming hall only had 1 IP.

There are ways around this. I'm not sure how pokersites would adjust to the huge increase in collusion/ potential collusion.

I for sure would welcome an influx of fish though.

This is the reason why I don't think On-Line Poker has anywhere near peaked yet. At the moment OLP is predominantly available (or at least targeted) at around 400 million people - The US, Canada, The UK, Scandanavia and Oceania. The rest of Western Europe has hardly been touched as yet and once the Asian Market gets going I think a second boom will be on. I think the next few years will be very interesting - now if we could only get the Chinese to open their Internet market as well /images/graemlins/cool.gif

Well, I honestly dont think the Koreans need 2+2. It would help, but I can not imagine Koreans not dominating online poker when it becomes avaliable to them.

Of course there will be some fish here and there, but Koreans are obsessed with gaming. They log 80 hours a week playing a RTS game like Starcraft for measely money. You're popular for playing an online game your entire life. Now replace that with poker, more fun and "real" money. I consider myself pretty disciplined and patient playing poker, but I spent years when I was younger trying to dominate Starcraft, but it was just too hard. It took the upmost discipline, everything had to be perfect. It's alot harder than knowing when to fold, raise, or check.

Granted, videogames and poker are different, but they have some of the same characteristics. Discipline and patience for one.
