During the Spring and early Summer, the Mirage was clearly the best place to play stud in Las Vegas. The room regularly had stud games spread at 5 levels. 1-5, 5-10, 10-20, 20-40, and 40-80. Usually, you could count on two 20-40 games even on weekday afternoons.

Meanwhile, stud was nearly non-existent at the Bellagio. They had their 1-5 games and a 4-8 game. But, other than those, they usually were only able to get one 15-30 game going. They hardly ever managed to get a 30-60 game running.

About a month and a half ago, the Bellagio started spreading 20-40 stud games regularly. This was highly unusual. The Bellagio and Mirage hardly ever spread the same games at the same limits. For example, in hold'em the Bellagio has 4-8, 8-16, 15-30, and 30-60. The Mirage spreads 3-6, 6-12, 10-20, and 20-40.

For reasons I don't know, the Bellagio has succeeded in taking away many of the Mirage's 20-40 players. In recent weeks, the Mirage has had just one and often no 20-40 games. Today, the Mirage was fairly busy for a Tuesday afternoon. They had two 5-10 games, two 10-20 games, two 40-80 games, but not even an interest list for 20-40 stud. At the same time, the Bellagio had a full 20-40 game with a waiting list as well as a full 15-30 game right next to it.

This has created a strange system where both rooms have big gaps in their limits. The Bellagio has 1-5, 4-8 and then there is a big jump to 15-30 and 20-40. The Mirage has 1-5, 5-10, 10-20, and then a monster jump to 40-80.

Sounds like Foxwoods, where there is a big jump from 15-30 to 40-80.
