This makes too much sense for it to ever happen.

The head of the British recording industry, who also spoke at the conference, made much the same point: music companies need to get used to the idea of selling more music to more people more often, but for less money. It was a notion repeated often during the conference.

Why not charge 10 cents, instead of 5, and double the revenue?

depends on selection. but i would happily pay .05 / song to fill my ipod out with random singles i like from various artists rather than having to try and hunt down an mp3 floating around in the ghetto of the internet. if i could pick from virtually anything. i would buy a ton. for now i'll stick with rhapsody.

Allofmp3 is legally questionable. Also, I don't want to give my credit card info to the reds.

i will never pay to download an mp3. not because i'm cheap or a thief, but because i hate the mp3 file format. it sounds awful. if they offer losslessly-coompressed music, i'd pay for that. i might even consider paying for ogg files. but never mp3.

I totally agree. Grateful Dead's Dick Picks are avalible on ITunes now. I wish they would be downloadable in FLAC. I would think about getting them, if it was cheaper than getting the CDs.

That is what one time use credit card numbers are for. I've been using that site for a couple months and I love it. Might be legally questionable but it sure beats having to d/l a song 10 times to get a decent copy of it.

Yep. I wouldn't buy them if they were 1 cent.

id buy most of my songs through this method. often times, i find an artist i like and want to download all of their albums, but thats simply not possible using limewire or whatnot if they are not mainstream. even if they are mainstream, it could take weeks, and it certainly takes alot of effort.
