I do not know if I should get a 4GB ipod (approx 1k songs) for $200 or a 20GB ipod (5k songs) for $300. I really don't think I have anywhere close to 5k songs, but I'm still open to hear wat others say.

Here's my obligatory iAudio M3 (http://eng.iaudio.com/zeroboard/product_M3_over.php?bmenu=p&id=cw5000) post. Get that instead. Back to the topic at hand, though, get the biggest one you can afford. You'll fill it. Also, you should be able to get a better price than $300 for a 20GB player. At least I'd hope you could. My advice is to skip past even the 20GB player and go straight to 40GB or 60GB.

Trust me, you'll find 5k songs pretty quickly once you have the ability to carry them withyou everywhere. I never thought I'd fill up my 40 when I first got it, but it's almost full 3 months later.

Agree with the above posters. Also, remember that "5K songs" = 5K 3 minute, minimum quality songs.

I love my 20GB, also, a needed accessory is the ITrip FM Modulator (Plays your IPod through the station of your choice so essentially you never need cd's in your car again, my cd player plays MP3s and I thought $150 songs was awesome, now I have 5K at my finger tips, now I have to just get the dock for the car... end ramble now)

20GB!

I own too much music to fit on any MP3 player. Important things for me were being hard-drive based, form factor, and user-interface. I went with the iPod mini and have never regretted it. It all depends on your personal preferences.

(1) you want a longer battery life, (2) you desire the capactiy to hold considerably more songs/audiobooks, & (3) you'd like to give others the impression that you don't putt from the rough. Otherwise, go for the 4GB in pink.

My wife bought me a 1gb iPod Shuffle for my b-day, and I love it. Ideally I would like to have a giant HDD for all my music (in addition to the Shuffle), but the Shuffle is incredibly wee and portable, and holds more than enough music for any 1 or 2 sittings. After that, just reload!

I don't have quite as much music. I only owned 50 CDs before getting my 15gig Ipod and after that I have taken CDs from many more people and I still only have 7gigs filled up. If you are like me I would go with the 6gig mini that is coming out very soon because it fills enough music to rotate for several days and I think it is the perfect size.

isn't there a 6g mini with better battery life out now?

i don't like ipods because you have to use gay software to get your music on or off of it

By "gay" do you mean 3rd-party? I use copypod (which is like $10 shareware) and it works fine.

Neither....I have the 40gb iPod.

yes....be very, very jealous. I'm up to 4,000 songs and am only about a third full....

i mean anything that involves software is gay. i would want an mp3 player to be seen as a hard drive when plugged into my computer. i would move files back and forth using whatever file manipulation tools i wanted (even explorer or basic command line stuff). and i would be able to do this on any system.

most other players allow that. if an ipod did i'd own one, as for now i don't have anything (gf has a rio carbon which behaves 'properly' but the interface leaves much to be desired)

I believe there's third-party software that lets you mount the iPod as a normal hard drive, EphPod or XPlay or something, but I could be wrong, not sure. If this is a deal breaker for you (and it seems like it is) then yeah, an iPod isn't for you.

astroglide
03-08-2005, 10:52 PM
yeah there's xplay and anapod and blah blah but i'd really rather not deal with any of that. i just want it to be a native drive with files laying around, no special filesystems or meta files.

Unless you see yourself eventually getting a iPod speaker setup that has a docking station in it, get a 40GB for $400, which, unlike the 20GB, includes a docking station, a $50 value.

I just went through this yesterday and I decided to get the 4gig one. They're $179 right now on Amazon so I got them and a $50 pair of earphones that were on sale for $33.

Oddly enough Amazon emailed me today and said they are shipping my earphones seperate because they don't want to delay receiving them.

Well after seeing this

I have to get one....

If it can turn me into a muscularish black man with sex appeal, it's worth the $259.
