So I pressed "prt sc" in the top right section of my keyboard... and nothing happens. I would really like to take a screenshot. Help appreciated

Try Alt+Print Screen. I forget the details but I think that captures the active window. Then past it into Paint.

You should just be able to hit PrintScreen and it copies the screen into your clipboard where you can then paste it into paint.

Oops, i think you're right... .and Alt+Pr Scr is to copy only the active window in Windoze.
Regardless, the salient point is that you've still gotta paste the clipboard -- in XP go to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Paint, then Ctrl+V. Not that I hope you're using Windows, but it's what I've got handy right now.

not sure if you're on a laptop or desktop. to use the "prt sc" key on my laptop, I have to also hold down the "fn" key on my keyboard. (the "prt sc" shares the "insert" key)

Press the "Control key", the "Alt" key and the "Print screen" key at the same time. Then go to start/programs/accessories/paint/edit and select "paste." The image will then appear on screen. Hope this is what you wanted.

Why CTRL?
PR SCR = Captures everything
ALT + PR SCR = Captures active window only

You can paste the image into other applications such as Word or Wordpad. I find that more convenient.

Also, if you are unlucky enough to have a Microsoft keyboard like me, you have to have "F Lock" off, which is toggled by a useless key up in the top right too... Took me a while to work that one out myself.
