View Full Version : $ 3 Chip - Color and Availability
Who has any experience or opinions in using a $3 chip in home games?
A buddy wants to use $3 chips for his 3-6, 6-12, and 9-18 games. Wants to buy chips (no denomination) using an appropriate color. I only remember the chips at Commerce being a pale green - aqua or teal ???
Where would he buy some chips like this?
Thanks

Does the color matter? If you don't want to pick a typical chip color, go with yellow or pink.
If you find someone who makes the chips with an unusual color such as teal, let us know.

Pink is traditionally $2.50 in the casinos around here.
I'd suggest dayglo orange or something like that.

The Commerce $3 chip is day glow orange with a dark blue and yellow edge spot.
Harrah's Rincon uses yellow chip with green edge spots for their $3 poker chips (used as drops only).

The Seneca Niagara casino in New York uses a mustard/tan color $3 chip for drops. I wanted one, but they wouldn't sell it to me! It says "poker room only" on the inlay.

I think Bay101 uses $3 chips, and they may be teal.
Vineyards $3 are lime green. and if u are playing 3/6 theres no point to $3 chips because you still have to use $1 chips becuase of the blinds.

eBay has a few batches of "New Sonny's Casino" $3 Paulsons which are sky blue with 2 double spots of magenta/lime.

I got the $3 drop chips by playing poker. Only for about 30 mins. You can play one hand. Buy a $3 chip and leave. There's no time limit.

Sure there is. It makes things much easier. Not to mention for a faster game as well. Plus if it takes 12 chips to cold call a raise on the last two streets, it's more likely someone would short change the pot (even with the best of intentions).

They're unusual, so there's no "standard" like red $5, green $25, or black $100. Mohegan Sun (CT) used a $3 in the 3-6 game that was brown with green accents (called "turtles").
Some swear that playing with $1 chips made the game better because the pots looked bigger and encouraged more action.
