There is about 40minutes left at this point. Does this movie actually get good at some point?

Well the door test speech was pretty good.
C "What about all the stuff you just told me, follow my heart....she might be one of the great ones"
Sonny "Bullshit the door test that's what matters"

It's an above average movie IMO. De Niro was good, not great, but good. Chazz Palminteri was perfect a Sonny (the only watchable movie that I've seen him in). A Sopranos/Goodfellas freak (like myself) will usually overrate this film.
The only real pet peeve I have with this flick was that De Niro's son Calogero or 'C' was depicted as a really bright and streetsmart kid at age nine. But when the film suddenly jumps ahead eight years, his I.Q. drops 25 points, minimum! Example: At the very end of the flick where C. interrupts a kiss with his girlfriend Jane to ask, "Do you know how to make sauce?" With a puzzled look on her face Jane says, "What?" C continues, "You know, sauce...for macaroni." Jane, realizing that she has a complete idiot for a boyfriend, just rolls her eyes and tells him to shut up as they go back to kissing.

No no no, that simply won't do. You need to quote razors post for the full effect. Do you see why?

even though the kid who plays the elder c and the girl who plays his girlfriend are pretty wooden, i really like this movie. chaz owns (as does the soundtrack). when he drives in reverse the whole way to the bar...style. i say it's a good movie.

Did you know that in the original casting De Niro and Palminteri had the opposite roles but DeNiro who I believe Produced the film, insisted that Palminteri take the bigger role.

DeNiro was a producer for the film. But, more importantly, it was the first film he directed.
Palminteri wrote the screenplay based on a play (which he also wrote).
Was he in that, Lol? It's been so long, I only really remember Kevin Spacey. But yeah, I liked that movie. The one I can't believe I forgot was "Bullets Over Broadway." He was great in that, basically he plays the same character that he did in Bronx Tale, except here he's a mobster with a creative side.
"She makes stuff not work!"

As an Italian American from New York, I have no choice but to rank this in my top 10 movies.
I cannot believe all of the posters who did not like this flick.
Edited to say not.
