View Full Version : If I play this limit online....what limit should I play in the casino?

Planning a trip to Las Vegas for next month.

I am a new, but so far winning, player and regularly play the .50/1 and 1/2 limit PartyPoker games. What limit would this correspond with in the casinos? Which limit game should I consider playing in Las Vegas without getting in over my head with tougher competition or playing at too low of a limit?

Thanks.

I have yet to find a B&M game tougher than the party 1/2. Highest I've played though is 6/12 (just don't have enough cash to even consider taking a shot higher... yet)

It is my experience that the .5/1 online game plays the same as a 2/4 B&M game. I would say you would do fine at 2/4 and 3/6. I use to play .5/1 online and now am at 2/4. I regularly play 2/4 and 3/6 live and some of the 2/4 games live seem to be the same as 2/4 online.

From what I have read there is a 1/3 spread limit game at the Excalibur that you should be able to be fine at as well.

Usually the amount of money you're bringing will make this decision for you.

If this is your first time at a BM card room just play the smallest game in whatever room you're in and see where it goes from there.

I disagree. In most cardrooms in major casinos, whether AC/LV/CA, the difference between a 2/4, 3/6 and 4/8 game is slight, if there is a difference at all. There are a ton of easy 6/12 games as well.

If your bankroll can handle it, I highly suggest playing 3/6 or 4/8 instead of 2/4, as you will not be hurt as much by the rake.

Did you not read the first part of my post...money is usually deciding factor.

But in either case, I still think he should play the smallest game if it's his first time...then take it from there..its all about comfort...if he finds that he feels comfortable then by all means move to a bigger game. Being "hurt by the rake" shouldn't be a concern unless he decides to start playing for a living.

If you've never played in a casino, you should play the smallest game possible, at least the first time. Even if you know how to play well enough that you should be a winner in a bigger game, it takes a while to get used to the feel of playing live, the rules and procedures of a cardroom, observing other players and so forth. Since you already understand the tactics of the game, I think in your first live session that's why you are going to be preoccupied with and when trying to pick that stuff up, it's probably best to be in as small a game as possible. After a session or two when you feel comfortable playing live, then you can think about playing in a bigger game.

If thinks are still the same at the Excalibur, He doesn't want to play the 1-3, it is like playing bingo but you don't have to yell when you win.

The 2-6 spread limit is much better because you are eligible for the jackpots and if your aces get cracked, you get to spin the wheel for cash.

My info is almost two years old now, so things might have changed since my last visit.

I loved everything about the Bellagio 4/8 except the waiting list. It plays like Party 0.50/1 but tends toward the aggro side.

Soft games with enough potential are the 2-6 spread at Excalibur and the 4/8 at Bellagio can be that way. Table selection is the key. I have sat at no fold 'em tables and also in the shark tank there.

I should've put in my original post that I'll have enough money to play any reasonable level. So that is not really a factor. Also, I wouldn't feel uncomfortable playing at any limit that my skill level warrants (I've put a lot more on the single roll of some dice /images/graemlins/grin.gif)

I've probably played in a cardroom only about 20 times in my life. 2/4 and a ridiculous 2-5 game if that makes any difference.

Thanks for all the responses, keep em coming.
