Hi..

Played some 10-20 the other day for a few hours.

Well the game was LUDICROUSLY tight.
Also the game was EXTREMELY friendly..

For instance.. When everyone folded to the last person to act, that person would always FOLD. NEVER raise or call. There was absolutely no stealing going on. I saw one opponent lay-down pocket tens last to act against the bring in. He just said 'take it down'

Also, if everyone folded to the bring in. The bring in would always give a 'dollar back' to the last person who folded.

Now this game was a 'stealers' dream. But do we want too?

My reactions to this game and comments tommorow..

I'm assuming this was a casino game, and you had no social ties to the other players. In my small stakes home game with a bunch of friends, as my poker skill has increased, I have actually had to deliberately play suboptimally to keep from destroying the game. But my usual objective in poker is to win. I won't angle shoot much outside the game (ie. trying to annoy someone or misdeclare my hand to try to steal a pot). But within the rules of the game, I'll play very "unfriendly" if I preceive it to be in my best interest.

In this game, I would probably have stolen less as long as everyone else was doing the same. But I would still have stolen with semi bluffs -- low flush/str8 draws, over cards, small pairs. I would not have shown my cards or apologized, but I would have tried to be friendly.

In general, I would have tried to be VERY aggressive relative to the table, which might actually mean being LESS aggressive than usual. The goal would be to steal and knock out a lot, and get a read when your tight opponents stay, but without pissing everyone off and making yourself a target.

I probably would not have checkraised -- a lot of "friendly"
players hate this above all other aggressive plays.

MRB,

Yes this game was the Mohegan Sun 10-20 game.

Hey, have you been up there lately? Let me know when you go up there again. I have been playing alot lately.

I've been really busy, so my only poker playing (aside from the home game every Wed.) has been online. But I am hoping to do a poker trip maybe on a Friday/Saturday in late October or mid November with one of my poker buddies (a sometime poster here, but more an HE player). My winnings online have wiped out my casino losses, so I am planning to sit $5-10 stud and $3-6 he at Mohegan or Foxwoods next time I go. Just curious -- have you played Paradise 2-4 stud? If so, how does it compare to the 5-10 at Mohegan or Foxwoods? Structure is similar, but obviously stakes are not.

I would say PP 2/4 stud hi is probably the best 2/4 game you can find on PP consistently.

Unfortunetly stud hi is my worst game /forums/images/icons/frown.gif

Vehn, by "best" I assume you mean softest. I also have been able to beat 2-4 pp he, and I am much less knowledgeable about that game than about stud. How is the 4-8 stud on Paradise? Much tougher than 2-4?

Hello,

No. I do not play poker online. ( ocassionally you will see me on Paridise Play tables, but thats just when I'm bored in the morning when I get back from work. My screename on Paridise is 'Jazzhorn' )

If you are planning a trip in October/November you should plan on going up to Foxwoods the first weekend of The World Poker Finals. That room will have action like you have never seen.

Hope to see ya there.

I'm thinking of taking a Friday off, staying over Friday night in or near casino, and leaving Saturday night. Do you think 10/25-26 or 11/1-2 would be better for this, as far as having lots of low limit players around?

I tend to only play 2-4 and 3-6 limits at any game on PP, as I am mostly doing it for experience and prefer to play higher live.

I have not played 4-8 stud hi on PP but there is an important thing to remember about the 2-4 stud games on PP: they are the first limits of stud with a "reasonable" ante structure (1/8 of a small bet), so you would imagine that the games would be better as the lower games don't really play the same. I would expect the 4-8 stud to be pretty tough.

Well either will have lots of low limit action, but I would still try for the 25th. That is the first weekend of the WPF. ( although the first event isn't till Sunday )

The place will be hoppin.

Hello Again..

Sorry my responses to these posts have been late, but I have actually been playing alot of cards lately, so I haven't been near the computer. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Well I went right along with table ( not stealing ) with one MAJOR exception. I started stealing like mad from EARLY position. When I had the highest card showing or with any hand I would basically call with, I would raise.

Worked like a charm.
