I got into a Bar in Vegas off the strip. Put 20 bucks on the bar and 20 in a VP machine. Bartender brings me a drink. takes the 20 ask if I want change. I say no. He says thanks and puts the 20 in his pocket.

I sit for a while I think about what happens. Shift change comes. I tell barteneder b who I havew become friendly with that bartender a has scamed me.

Also what would your next course of action be if you think you were scamed?

I set it on the bar to cover the price of my beer. Hes not chargeing me for the beer. Nor did he tell me the beer is a comp.

So is the money to be interpertid as a tip?

If this is a bar in a casino usually your drink is comped if you are playing a machine, but if you are in a non-casino bar they do not always comp your beverages.

Wow dude, you tip really well.

As for being scammed I don't see why it matters to you what he did with the money.

I'm a bit confussed myself. He did not tell me the drink is comped. So what your saying is keep my money in my pocket til they ask for it? Im an idiot for putting money on the bar. Also I should knowe that the drink is comped?

guy walks in to a bar orders a heineken pays with a cnote says keep the change.... its only happened to me once but my gf has probably gotten it 5 times. horray for boobies! the bartender was definitely not trying to scam you here, and i doubt he would be offended if you explained your intentions and tossed him a tip. tip well,
jason

You obviously were confused as to how drinks in VP bars work. Easy hing to do if you don't frequent them, and I'd venture that the bartender was as confused as you about what transpired.

Why not just call him over and politely explain that you misunderstood and that you can't afford to tip him twenty dollars and and ask him for change.

1) i assume you mean "scammed"

2) if anyone was scammed, it was the bar owner who didn't get paid for the beer.

I'm still confused. When he asked "do you want change" and you said no, were you planning to tip him $15 on a $5 beer? And you're now mad 'cuz you ended up tipping him $20 on a free beer instead? Is that the issue here or something else?

bump. I would still like some more detail as to what exactly went down here.

I go into a the local bar. I put a 20 on the bar off to the right. I drop 20 in the Video poker machine. I ask the bartender for a black and tan. He brings me a B&T ask me if I want change ( I assume for the 20 due to the fact I am playing VP) he pockets the 20.

the issue here is that you thought he meant change as in "take this 20 and break it into smaller bills" and he meant "is this my whole tip or do you want some change out of it"...and yeah, he wasn't trying to scam you...

I get it now. You thought he was asking you if you needed quarters.

OK, this is simple. Call him over and say "Excuse me, I'm sorry man, I thought you were asking me if I wanted change for video poker. I was just trying to pay for my beer."

Then he'll give you the $20 back and tell you the beer is free, at which point you ask him to break your $20 and you leave him $5.

If you don't say anything, it's nobody's fault but yours.
