I don't put butter on bread.

Depends:-

1. How much bread there is in the house.
2. How much butter there is in the house.
3. How clean the floor is.
4. How fresh the bread is.
5. Whether there is an acceptable bread/butter substitute if either of these are close to running out.
5. Whether there is somewhere nearby that I can purchase more bread/butter for a reasonable price.
6. Whether I'm dressed.
7. How recently I ate and when the probable next time I'm going to eat is.
8. State of financial affairs/employment.

Toss it, because it's bread and butter. If it's something that can be rinsed in the sink, rinse and eat.

And if I'm doing foodservice again and it's filet mignon, stick it in the back of the fridge with the others reserved for people who order their steak "well-done". Just fyi.
