I have been playing .05/.10 tables for a couple weeks now trying to learn enough about the game to move up. My plan was to move up the chain one level at a time. I have beat .05/.10 for 2.84bb/100 over 6100 hands (despite losing 25bb over the last 2000 hands). My fear is that I am learning how to beat a level which is played very different from .25/.50, .50/1 and 2/4, which is where I would like to play for a while.

So what does everyone think. Is .05/.10 a waste of time for those who want to really learn how to beat the game for some worthwhile money?

Its useful to build a roll if you're tight, and get an idea on how to handle different situations (like maniacs).

But id move to .50/1 at party asap.

I found Party Poker 0.50/1.00 to be only slightly tougher than Poker Stars 0.05/0.10 in terms of average difficulty. So, no, it's not irrelevant.

I would've done well to stay at 0.05/0.10 longer. I'm finding some problems at 1/2 that have cost me a few hundred in expected profit.

Perhaps a bit saner than .05/.10 (I'm picturing it as being kind of like a play money table), but tremendously beatable.

Besides, wouldn't you rather find leaks now than when the stakes are 5x-10x?

I find moving up in the stakes motivates you to get your poker down better. If he moves up, he'll have the potential to make some real money, quite inticing to learn the limit.

The two games won't be to different, however you will find more TAGs in .50/1 which require more thought; and they do push your poker game to a new level.

It's all bankroll-dependent. My reason for playing there when I did was that my roll could barely buy a decent dinner out.

If you can move, then you probably should. But is the learning experience at 0.05/0.10 worth something? Certainly.

I am playing .05/.10 right now. I have exact 59.15 dollars. What actually happened is that inbetween I didn't play online for one whole semester and lost touch with online poker. Before that I had built my BR for .25/.50 playing .05/.10 (was at 90 aroundish).

I am re-reading SSH and playing .05/.10 at the same time.

My question, what would be a good time to make the jump to .25/.50 ?

Thanks.

you can take a shot at when you get in the 125-150 range, as long as you are willing to dropdown if things get real ugly

also is .25/.5 raked? it takes away a pretty significant amount of winnings that were being left untouched at .05/.1

Well, following the 300 BB rule you would need $150. But why not move up to .10/.20 in between .05/.10 and .25/.50?

Oh, bankroll is at PS, it doesn't have .10/.20

it sucks.

I was actually thinking 200BB at 100$ is a good time to move up.

I recently moved from Stars .05/.10 straight into .5/1 (bonus inticed me). Yes there is a difference, and no it's not small. .05/.10 was not a waste of time, as I learned quite a bit by posting hands and putting advice into practice.

FWIW there are a lot of really bad players at .5/1, but there are a few good ones around too. PT and GT+ will help tremendously.

@Nate, with what BR did u make the move?

I have played some of the .5/.1 6-max tables, there are bad players yeah but swings are more on the 6-max. Don't know about the full tables though.

I got a really good deal on a first deposit and bonus /images/graemlins/grin.gif

I am currently 13 BB/100 thru 1200 hands. . . yeah, up over $200 /images/graemlins/grin.gif I know the downswing is coming, just don't know when

I personally think you should be beating .05/.1 for more than 2.8 BB/100. Anyway, move up soon to .1/.2. Your goal should be at least 3BB/100.
