I'd have to know that the players behind me are very tight before I try a steal with 72s.

The flip side is, as your first hand at the table, this one is bound to increase your action when you actually showdown. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

I don't like the PF raise at all. Most of the time you won't be able to issolate the poster (your best case scenario), and if you do you're something like a 6:4 dog.

Check preflop, don't bet the flop.

River and turn are fine.

That's not the best case scenario. The best case is that my $3 raise steals the $10 in blind money out there. If I can do that about 1/4 of the time, the raise is automatically profitable. I can't do it that often, but that's okay because I can sometimes win the hand when we actually do get a flop.

You're right. I didn't realize how inoften you had to successfully steal for it to be immediately profitable. Just be careful not to bluff off your stack needlessly postflop, or it becomes unprofitable.

I make similar raises pre-flop, but dang with 72s that check button starts to look really good. The problem is that the loosness of a good table kinda defeats this strat. They know you're full of [censored] and it makes call-happy opponents hate hitting the fold button even more. Although showing down something like this starts out your table image on the right foot.
