Folding a set on the river

Is there any way I could have played the hand differently to get a different result? The flop checkraise was risky, but flop bets were not effective on this table at thinning the field, and the button can be counted on to bet if it is checked to him. What do you think of the river fold? (No player was tricky, but they all were stupid)

I think I bet this river. And I don't know if I fold given your actions..

Erm... at first I thought bet/fold line, but nobody is going to give you credit for a 5 when you check-raised the flop. Then again, checking the river just screams, "I'll fold if it gets expensive!" which is why I could understand some of the nuttier villians trying to raise you out with a worse hand.

In short, I'm lost as well.
