The World Trade Organization's Appellate Body made a final ruling today that US export subsidies to cotton farmers distort the market, lowering prices worldwide.

The ruling essentially says that the United States, in violation of capitalist creed AND international treaties signed by the United States, obstructs the free market.

Not surprisingly, the Bush administration rushed to state that the U.S. is not going to obey the ruling and will try to get concessions for doing what it has already been ordered to do!

All my faith in the United States has been crushed....

Where can I get my "I hate my country and will collaborate when the Muslims invade" bumber sticker??

Seriously...who cares. China hasnt allowed free trade or protected labor rights or intellectual property rights for a good 2 decades and their economy seems to be doing pretty well; maybe we should follow suit.

Wether or not it is 'fair' or 'right' the U/S. has a national security intrest in preserving a domestic presence of certian industries; steel, cotton, aerospace, agriculture, etc...

doesnt matter one bit. the US doesnt have to obey. make the US obey, thats what i say. make the other nations of the world trade freely with us, see what happens then.

If we don't intend to abide by the rulings of the WTO, why did we join it? If membership isn't to our benefit, we should get out. If it is our intent to ignore the rulings we don't like, we have no basis to complain when other countries do the same.
