betting, check-calling, and check-folding all seem equally ridiculous...

Check-call unless you have a read on him that he will check down and then call your river bet with A-high. If you bet he will surely only call you with a better hand, however if you check you may induce a bluff. My guess is he has a hand like A6 or K9. Go for the check-call.

I would have bet. I think you'll get paid off by ace high pretty often. Maybe even king high. Unless he's real passive, it doesn't look like he has a pair. I think betting sounds a lot better than check-calling or check-folding. In fact, I couldn't imagine your opponent even betting here, because it seems like 90% of players would have tried to win the pot an an earlier street.

without a read i would check call.
If you know he hates to fold any-face high, and won't bluff it, then bet.
