Villain has bet/raised just about every hand, and shown down some mighty strong hands like T7o (ten high, raised the river).

1) Would you call this preflop?
2) What would your line be?

I would fold preflop. 84s isn't strong enough against this sort of player. My cutoff is 86s.

It doesn't matter if he's bluffing if you can't even beat a bluff.

I'd let this go. It'll build up his confidence, and you can pop him later.

I think we can call. If we get a flop that we like, we might get a ton of bets out of this one. As long as you know what to do when the flop comes 872, I think a call is fine here. We are looking to hit a home run, and if we don't then we move on to the next hand.

i've purged hands like this from my repetoire after recent some soul-searching (& some pointed "advice" from the respected micro elder statesmen... /images/graemlins/wink.gif )

my thinking is this:
1. the game goes on forever. i'll get a better spot with better cards.
2. i'm not good enough yet to play a hand like this profitably, even vs. a maniac.

Since I probably would have called in this spot against a normal player (this goes back to that 7:1 figure I keep quoting, and the debate on whether that's actually enough for ANY two suited), I felt like I should definitely call against the maniac because if I hit my hand, I'm going to get paid off in full.

The flop comes, and I hit *something*. Is it worth it against a player who would raise Ten-high on the river?

This is why I throw away garbage... so difficult to play.

You are calling for the home run dude. Easy fold.
