Even better:

"Matt Wood, 15, shuffled his chips like his favorite professional poker player, Dutch Boyd"

This was my favorite quote:

[ QUOTE ]
Greater Zionsville Area Youth Ministries recently added "intentions to play poker" to firearms and illegal drugs on its "forbidden" list that students must sign before attending a retreat.

[/ QUOTE ]

This is good too:

[ QUOTE ]
Ken Winters, a professor at the University of Minnesota and an expert on adolescent gambling, said parents should look for warning signs of gambling addiction by asking these questions:
• Does my child spend a lot of time thinking and strategizing about poker when he or she isn't playing?

Well, if they're gonna play, we might as well make sure they're bad at it.

If it were my child, I'd be more concerned if he were playing regularly and the answer to the above was "no" /images/graemlins/grin.gif.

I love this part of every "kids playing poker" article. As if they would steal cars and kick dogs if they didn't play poker. I never played poker when I was a kid and I didn't get into trouble.

It's easily one of the easiest justifications a kid can give to adults.

I can't get past the first photo. I'm gonna try again . . .

"Oh yeah we got trouble, right here in River City, with a Capital T and that rhymes with P and that stands for Pool."

Funny how the more they say the times are different, they seem to basically stay the same . . .

Didn't read the article...just the various stuff in the thread:

My ex-wife is from Zionsville and we got married there!

Somehow this quote doesn't surprise me for that area.
Very conservative, upper-middle class suburb just north of Indianapolis.

My ex mom-in-law wouldn't have been responsible for such an addition to the 'forbidden' list ....but I suspect she's probably good friends with the people who were.

Hell, I might have even met them at the wedding for all I know (am I allowed to say 'hell' in Zionsville?? probably not).

Oh yeah....the kid in the shades is hilarious.

I played $1/$2 NL with a kid in Tunica last weekend that sat there with an unlit cigarette like Farha. He told us he didn't smoke. It was hilarious. He looked and acted like he was about 17. We all kept asking to see his ID and he never would show it, but insisted he was 21. He drank about 7 long islands before he finally busted out and just staggered off with that cigarette in his mouth.

I say fair play to the little chaps. The way the article is presented makes them look quite pathetic, but that isnt their fault. I would have loved to have an enthusiasm for the game at that age, and chances are by the time any of these kids are 21+ we could have a few great players on our hands with a considerable amount of experience behind and ahead of them!!!

In saying that, the photo is a tad hilarious. Poor guy /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Pretend-smoking a pretzel log definately seems like something I would have done when I was a kid. But I'm defining "kid" loosely - at my age, nostalgia doesn't properly differentiate between 16 and 11.
