There's no way in hell he's drinking non-alcoholic beer. Why would anyone be drinking that?

Scotty Nguyen drinks all the time at the table as does Men Nguyen and many other poker players. Have you ever been to a casino, Bill? If seeing one person drinking at the table shocks you, youre going to be blown away at a casino.

Scotty drinks Michelob and Men drinks Corona.
A lot of people think Men's game is seriously hampered by his drinking. I think it is to some extent.

I was shocked during the first half hour of the show when Scotty reached down and picked up a coffee mug. My first thought was, why is Scotty drinking beer out of a coffee cup /images/graemlins/confused.gif

Later when I saw him with a glass of beer, I knew the world was still spinning around as it should.

Scotty didn't drink at the final table untill maybe right before he went out. He just caught a bad run of cards.
He was, however, drunk the night before when he amassed all those chips.

obviously i just starting following televised poker. apparently scotty's drinking is well known. Yes i've been to casino before and yes i know people drink at the table, i just didn't a world class player would be drinking at the table during the final stages of a major poker tournamnent. apparently i'm naive i guess.

Both Scotty and Men "The Master" drink beer at the table and both claim it doesn't affect their play. Some I'm sure would dispute that.

But who knows? Maybe without the beer to relax them, they wouldn't play aggressive enough.

I thought the only thing interesting about showing Scotty drinking a beer is that the WPT seems to frown on showing player's drinking.

Of course on celebrity poker half of the players seem drunk and drinking is seemingly encouraged..:). Also on most other televised tourneys you see any number of players enjoying a drink.

One of the funnier moments of the WSOP coverage was seeing Men do a spit take and spew Corona all over the table during the first stud tournament. Ted Forrest was joking quite a bit about how much Men was drinking that day.

Hey, Lee is that really you? If so, how about a word on the 106 hand.

[/ QUOTE ]And yet they trot out the official beer of the WPT (used to be Anheuser Busch World Select, now it's Michelob Amber Bock) at the end of each tournament and give one to everybody.

Hey, it's only poker.

This about Winston Churchill, who made a few important decisions in his day:

Churchill sometimes started the morning with a glass of Scotch and soda in bed, and he drank continuously throughout the day. According to Manchester, "There is always some alcohol in his bloodstream, and it reaches its peak late in the evening after he has had two or three Scotches, several glasses of Champagne, at least two brandies, and a highball."

He was rarely drunk, however. "All I can say is that I have taken more out of alcohol than it has taken out of me," Churchill famously remarked. Even drunk, he was usually in top form. Indeed, Labour Party M.P. Bessie Braddock once had the misfortune of accusing Churchill of drunkenness in public. "You're drunk!" she scolded. "Yes," he retorted, "and you are ugly, but tomorrow I shall be sober." /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Based on his decisions, I'd say he was drinking more than normal. How could he call Juanda's all in with A9s?

Keep watching WPT, various players drinking at the final table is pretty common.
