If he bets, should he lay it down as soon as someone plays back at him, i.e. check raise or lead out on the turn, regardless of the card?
I have problems with these hands because it seems like they are no longer playable as soon as you have to make a call with them, despite your show of strength.

Help me out here. Why is this an auto bet...

I have a long way to go b/c I don't understand why betting here is good.

Is it because Hero is last to act? Nobody has shown any aggression? He has a pair with an overcard kicker? To take control of the hand?

partially (not just an overcard, a mickyficky ace!)

partially (likekly noone has a king, or even a ten)

Because of the backdoor nut flush draw?

ok, you didn't actually say that, but it's a reason

and, i good number of people might fold hands like Kx or Qx or Jx (ie, cleaning up outs) or they might fold a pair of tens (slim chance but possible with these weak tendencies)

the combination of all of these relatively small perks makes this a bet.

you may have the best hand.

And if you don't have the best hand, you have 2-pr, trips & back door flush outs to improve to the likely best hand by the river.

you also have position to act on subsequent streets so you can plan your play accordingly based on what cards fall and how the action unfolds in front of you.

I guess I was looking at it from the standpoint of a small pot, with what I thought was a marginal hand on the flop. I don't know if I would consider a 66's to be the best hand.

I understand what you're saying about the outs, but wouldn't you rather just take a free card here to try to get that 2nd pair, trips or flush draw?

I'd bet this flop, you have a weak made hand with some good redraws and you want a chance to get some people out of the hand. A straight draw will have odds to call, but all flushes are the backdoor variety.

The rest of the hand I'd play as you did, not sure what kind of draw/hand SB had.

Anyone else (i.e. in addition to me) raise this pre-flop? I think this makes the rest of the hand easier...

On a board like this, you probably don't want to put 2 bets in and definitely don't want to open the option of having to put 3 in there.

I'll bet that every time.
